Chapter 25 | Leave it on the Ice

Location: Eden Hall Ice Rink

They open the locker room and quickly change hoping they made it on the ice before Coach Orion. Thankfully, Julie and Anastasia had gotten changed and met the Ducks on the ice before Coach Orion.

Cutting it a little close there babe, Dean said skating next to Anastasia.

They knew if they were late it would result in laps. Anastasia felt like she had to do laps anyway, due to being late yesterday. There was no way she wanted to have to do more than her share. When Coach Orion skated out to the Ducks everyone became tense.

Is it me or does Coach look pissed? Charlie said to Connie.

I'm sure whatever he is mad about has nothing to do with me. She replied.

Anastasia couldn't help rolling her eyes, yeah cause you're such an angel.

Fulton and Julie chuckle next to her as Coach Orion tells them to take a knee.

First, how many of you were late to practice today?

Everyone stayed quiet until a sickly sweet voice was heard.

Coach Orion, Julie and Anastasia were late today. They like literally arrived two minutes before you.

If looks could kill Connie would have been dead with the glares Julie, Anastasia, Dean, and Fulton were sending her.

Okay five laps Gaffney and Vlanterrin.

And another five for that remark. Plus you were late for class this week. So, you can think about that as you do fifteen laps around the ice rink.

Connie grins as she hears this.

As for Fulton and Portman, you both were in detention. On top of that, Portman you were late this week. Fifteen laps for Fulton and twenty laps for Portman.

As Anastasia does her laps around the ice rink she rolls her eyes as Connie mindlessly flirts with Guy. That will never work Guy is such a nice guy and Connie is the complete opposite. Plus, she just had a thing for Spot and I know she's been talking to Nathan.

Spreading yourself a little thin aren't we? Anastasia says as she skated passed Connie.

Anastasia rolls her eyes as she skated faster catching up to Dean, hey

Okay, Dean says confused. He thought the date had went great so what would she need to talk about. She wouldn't have kissed me if it went bad right. She was acting weird when I mentioned her ex and Connie but that's normal for anyone. I hope it's not something to do with Banks we have already been through that. Shit dude say something. After practice?

Yeah, Anastasia answers as she sees Fulton slowing down.

Anastasia skated up to Fulton. Hey Fulton, you doing okay?

Yeah, just struggling with these laps.

Fulton thinks for a second, I'm not sure dude.

As they were finishing their laps they watched the rest their teammates play a scrimmage. As always Julie and Goldberg were the goalies and Connie and Charlie took the face-off. Time had flown by watching them scrimmage as Fulton and Anastasia had finished their laps. They skated to the bench to drink water when Fulton decided to break the silence.

So, how's it going with you and Portman?

Anastasia looks away, we're doing okay. She looks at Portman knowing there was a possibility she would break his heart today. Her hands began to ache as she looked down at her skates.

What's wrong? Fulton asked looking between his two best friends.

Um... I told him I needed to talk to him after practice. You've heard the remarks between Connie and I.

Yeah everyone has. I was going to ask you what that was about.

Connie and my ex, not Banks, have been talking and spreading rumors. They have kinda gotten to Dean, I haven't been honest with him about what's going on. I didn't want him to get worried or be mad at me or for me to lose him. So, when he asked before I told him he had nothing to worry about. I feel like I'm lying to him. I think Connie's going to tell him everything. I don't want to lose him so I told him we need to talk.

Anastasia looks back up to an annoyed look thrown her way by Fulton.

Why weren't you honest with him? You just went out on a date with him and he was telling me how great it went.

I didn't know how to tell him. I told Julie the same thing. What was I supposed to say? I know we have had problems before with Banks but my ex called me and practically told me to dump you or he would tell you everything.

Anastasia looks away.

Fulton skates to Portman as Anastasia looks at them hoping that Fulton wouldn't say anything to him. She tried to keep an eye on them dreading the moment when she heard Coach blow the whistle.

The Ducks took a knee waiting for their Coach to begin talking.

What's going on out there? You all aren't focused and are not working as a team. Captain.

He looks at Charlie.

It is your responsibility to know what's happening to your team. To keep them motivated in practice and in games. If you cannot accomplish this I will have no choice but to choose a new captain. The Varsity team started to head to the ice as Anastasia looked at Banks.

The team looks at her. She rips her eyes from Banks as he skates out onto the ice.

The Ducks begin to skate to the gate as Anastasia begins to dread the conversation she is going to have with Portman. She prayed it wouldn't turn out like the conversation she had with Fulton.
