Kate Brillantes POV
This is it, noodles with squid. If I didn't feel obligated, I wouldn't proceed. I truly don't want to disrupt Kian and Asteria's peace. Why did Sorin manipulate me like this? If I had no obligations and no concerns about my Mom, I would definitely refuse this task.
Now, I'm going to Kian to carry out my mission with Sorin the Evil. It's annoying. If I had put in this much effort with Yusei, wouldn't I have been happy? At least with Kian, there's a chance for us to be together and have something real.
Cyra can be so predictable. I got into my sports car, which I owned. It was second hand, but at least it was functional. Before ringing the doorbell, I took a deep breath, inhaling and exhaling slowly to calm my nerves.
You can do it, Kate. You can handle it. I reassured myself. When I finally mustered enough courage, I pressed the doorbell. It took a few more tries before the Levington couple's gate opened completely.
"What are you doing here?" Kian asked, frowning as she seemed annoyed to see me. It was clear she hadn't expected me to visit them. Feeling a pang of disappointment, I closed my eyes tightly, preparing myself for the conversation ahead.
"Kian, I need to tell you something," I said seriously, bracing myself for her reaction. It was time to reveal the truth: she had been chosen.
"Go away, Kate. We have nothing to talk about," Kian said dismissively, about to turn around. However, I couldn't let her walk away without hearing me out. I grabbed her hand to stop her.
Asteria Celeste Averix Levington POV
"Go away, Kate. We have nothing to talk about," I heard Kian say, her voice carrying a tone of dismissal as she conversed with someone at our gate.
I quickly retreated behind a nearby tree near the gate, hoping to remain unnoticed as I peeked and listened in on the conversation. Nervousness washed over me, fearing that history would repeat itself.
We had just reconciled and patched up our relationship, and now it seemed like it might be unraveling again. As I eavesdropped, I saw Kate pull her hand away, a sign of tension in the air.
"Is that just the way it is, Kian?" I heard Kate's voice tremble, tears falling from her eyes as she questioned Kian.
"I need you. We need you. I really need you," Kate's voice was filled with desperation and anguish.
"You promised me that you would break up with that girl. But why didn't you keep it?" she screamed, her cries echoing her heartbreak and frustration.
What is she saying? What do you need for? I thought, feeling a surge of confusion and apprehension. Ideas began to form in my mind, but I resisted believing them. I didn't want to entertain such suspicions. I hoped fervently that my instincts were wrong. I wished desperately that it wasn't true.
"What do you mean?" I heard the confusion in my wife's voice as she struggled to understand. It was evident she couldn't grasp what Kate was saying. I noticed Kate swallow before she continued to speak, indicating the difficulty of the conversation.
"Kian," Kate said, moving even closer to her, perhaps attempting to convey the seriousness of her message.
"You have to take responsibility for this," Kate said, pointing to her stomach, indicating the gravity of the situation.
"I'm pregnant, Kian," Kate's words hung in the air, causing me to stop dead in my tracks. I felt frozen, unable to move as if I were dying inside. If what I feared was true, if Kate was indeed pregnant, I couldn't fathom what to do. But one thing was certain in my mind.
I will fight for my child's rights. My right as a wife and his right as a child. We both have a claim to Kian. Try to challenge me now that you're affected. Let's see if you can handle me. Kate declared with determination, asserting her resolve to protect her child and her position in Kian's life.
Kian Calen Levington POV
I'm pregnant, those words echoed in my
mind, the words I never wanted to hear from her mouth. I only wanted Asteria to say those words to me, not another woman. My forehead furrowed even more as the weight of the situation sank in."How is that possible? I used protection, Kate," I protested, trying to reassure myself more than anything. I couldn't fully believe her word. She was selective with the truth, and I couldn't help but question the situation.
"I don't even know, Kian. I suddenly felt the symptoms, so I immediately took a test, and it came out positive," she explained, trying to convey her confusion and surprise at the situation.
"How can you be so sure it's me?" I asked, feeling confused by the accusation. My wife and I had just repaired our relationship, and I didn't want Kate to ruin it again. Before she could respond, we heard a sudden crash. I quickly turned around and ran towards the source of the noise.
"Asteria!" I shouted, increasing my pace as I hurried towards the source of the sound.
When I finally reached her, I immediately picked her up and rushed to my car. I honked to signal for her to get in, and I quickly opened the door to help her inside. I didn't spare a glance back at Kate; my only concern was for my wife and child's safety.
As soon as we arrived at the entrance of the hospital, I quickly picked her up, carrying her inside. Some nurses noticed us and rushed to assist. Seeing her condition, they swiftly brought a stretcher and carefully placed her on it, ready to provide immediate medical attention.
"What happened, Ma'am?" one of the nurses asked as they continued to push the stretcher. I couldn't bring myself to answer because I was consumed by worry. Why hadn't I taken better care of her? I cursed myself, feeling like a complete jerk for letting this happen.
"What's the result, Doc?" I asked anxiously, turning to the doctor for answers.
"For now, she is fine. But let's make an effort to avoid stressing your wife, especially since she is pregnant," the doctor cautioned, emphasizing the importance of minimizing stress during pregnancy for the well-being of both mother and child.
"For now, she needs to stay at the hospital for two days so that her condition can improve," the doctor informed me. My wife is now resting in bed, under medical care.
