One-shot following "Last First Kiss"

-

Magnus sniffled, his leg bouncing rapidly. He looked at the sleeping man on the hospital bed and felt like crying once again. He should have known better than to leave him alone for so long. He couldn't believe just how far Alec had let it go.

Three hours earlier...

Magnus had fallen asleep on the sofa while watching a movie, late in the evening. He was sound asleep, with Chairman Meow close. There was silence in the apartment until a sudden loud noise broke through. It didn't wake Magnus up immediately. It took him some seconds to wake up and understand that something had woken him up.

He looked around as he sat up on the sofa. Chairman Meow was with him, so he couldn't have woken him up. He heard a muffled whimper of pain and realized it was Alec. He rushed to his room, the door locked just like it had been these past two, almost three, weeks.

He opened the door, which he usually wouldn't do without Alec's permission, but he had a bad feeling today. The lights were on and Alec was on the floor. He was trying to get up but he couldn't. His arms were shaking. His legs were too. He couldn't get up.

"Alec!" The moment Magnus walked closer to him, he understood the gravity of the situation.

Alec was unhealthily thin. His arms were half the width they should have been. His hair looked extremely thin, like it could fall out any time. He was way too pale. He looked almost unrecognizable from the last time Magnus had seen him, the day they had kissed for the first time.

"Oh, my fucking God, Alec, let me help you."

Alec wish he could have shaken his head, but he couldn't. He couldn't move. He did not have the energy, the strength. He was drained. He had meant to go to the toilet, after days of neglecting his most basic needs, but he had fallen on his way.

He let out a painful scream when Magnus moved him. He really needed to go relieve himself. His stomach hurt. His body hurt. He was in pain, extreme pain. He had felt this type of hurting before, when Caleb had starved him for a couple of days. It was way heavier now, however. He had barely eaten anything in almost three weeks. He had lost track of time.

Alec didn't cooperate when Magnus tried to move him up. He didn't want to move. He wanted to stay on the floor, take in all the pain, because he deserved it, and die.

"Alec, please, help me here," Magnus desperately tried to get his friend to move, but Alec was not mentally there. He was like a doll. "Alexander, please!"

He glanced at Alec, trying to see his face, but what he saw were his wrists. Marks, scars, recent cuts contrasted against his white skin. Magnus felt his own forearms burn at the sight. He didn't know what to do.

"911, what's your emergency?"

So, he decided to call an ambulance.

"Hello, m-my name is Magnus Bane," he stated his address after some hesitancy over whether this was a good idea or not, "I think my roommate hasn't eaten these past days, maybe even weeks, I-I really don't know, but he also has, uhm, his, well, he has cuts all over his arms. I can't move him, because I think he's in pain, I don't know what to do, or how to-... I think I need, he needs, an ambulance."

"Okay, sir, stay right where you are and remember to breathe. An ambulance is on its way."

"Thank you."

Magnus hung up as he wiped his eyes. He couldn't handle seeing the people he loved in pain and Alec... Alec was beyond that right now.

"Alexander, please, don't do this to me..." He muttered, feeling his lower lip tremble. Alec seemed to be barely conscious. It didn't help Magnus feel any better. "Alexander, please."
