Just like the nights before, I'm plagued with nightmares. The same ones that made me leave Eddie's room so he could sleep. I don't leave his side this time. I just lay awake in his bed, trying hard not to disturb him. One would think that his embrace would help, but it doesn't. As I lay in his arms, my imagination runs wild, wondering what he would be like if his life wasn't turned upside-down. Would he still be the Dungeons and Dragons' loving metal head, or would he be someone completely different? Where did he live before he moved in with his uncle? Who would have ended up being my person if he wasn't there that day? Who would I be if I was taken in by a different family?

I lay in bed, watching him peacefully sleep. Even with bed head and the occasional sleepy drool, he's perfect. With everything that's gone bad, I still count myself as one lucky bitch to have been taken in by the most loving boy, and the sweetest man I've ever known.
The sun just barely peeks through his thick, dark curtains. I sigh as I look at the clock, noticing it's almost time for him to get to and get ready for school. I wish I could go with him, but that's never going to happen again. The administration made that painfully clear. I guess I really only have myself to blame for that. That and Jason, and his stupid fucking witch hunt.
I watch the clock, dreading the moment I have to wake him up so he can go. He needs to, or he will never graduate. I can't make him go, or let him stay home with me forever.
"Eddie, baby, it's time to get up." I gently nudge him in an attempt to wake him.
"Ten more minutes." He groans, burying his face under my pillow.
"Five." I say, lifting the pillow from his face to give him soft kisses.
Eddie groans the second the pillow is moved, cutely scrunching his face. He perks up the moment my lips touch his cheek, pulling me to him for a real kiss.
"C'mon, get up. You gotta get ready for school." I happily push his hair out of his face.
"I'm up." Eddie stretches a bit, almost pushing me off of the bed. He quickly catches me, pulling me onto him.
"Not what I meant!" I playfully smack at him in protest. "You don't have time for that."
"I can't help it, princess." He smirks, rolling us over on the bed, tangling us in the blankets.
"Eddie! Go take care of that and get ready." I mumble under him.
"Are you sure you don't want to take care of it?" He laughs, wriggling around over me.
"Go get ready before you're late. You know you can't miss any more school days." I tell him as I try to push him off of me. I really wish we had time, but we don't.
"I'm pretty sure I failed the year already anyway, so it really won't hurt anything."
"What am I going to do with you?" I shake my head at him. "You know, once you turn twenty-one, you can't go to high school anymore, right? Maybe you can do some extra credit or something."
"We'll see." He says, finally getting out of bed to get ready.
As Eddie gets ready for school, I go into the kitchen to make him a quick breakfast and a lunch. I even write him a stupid little note for later. Part of me hopes he'll pull it out and one of the guys sees it. I giggle at the thought.
