A fist, the Cursed Spirit's fist, is headed right toward Inumaki's head. Inumaki's sentence stops, and his body tenses. It feels like time has just stopped. I notice everything around me: Fushiguro's nervous expression, Gojo-sensei knowing he won't arrive in time, the two dogs mid-air behind the Spirit, and my hand taking Inumaki's in mine. Between the few milliseconds that passed, I grabbed his hand and pulled him away from the attack, turning around at the same time.
"Okaka!" He cries out. It sounds like everything has been slowed down. The pain comes slowly as well. I feel a blast in my head, pain sparking down my spine, and I think my skull has cracked. I can't see out of my right eye, blinded by blood.
"Kahhhh!" The Spirit picks me up easily and throws me to the ceiling. Fire engulfs my body, the burning sensation spreading throughout my whole body like wildfire. I fall back to the ground with a hard thud, and I cough out blood.
The first thought I have is, 'I might die right now,' And I'm not devastated by the fact. I feel a small smile escaping my lips as my right ear begins to ring. Most of the damage seems to be on the right side of my body and face.
[Ha, ha, ha! One human down!]
[Let your Curse out!]
[It's my fault...]
Hearing the thought from Fushiguro, I take extra caution in keeping Itami inside of me. However, it was all wasted effort.
"I'm not letting you die," Itami says as he appears against my will. As he emerges, the regenerating process begins. The inner parts of my head start feeling tingly and I feel flesh growing and connecting with each other.
'Because you are "weak without me",' I think automatically. Then green Cursed Energy flows out of Itami, like a laser canon. The ball of energy is aimed right at the Spirit, who has frozen on the spot. Is Itami that threatening?
"Hakuto..." I whisper. Is this the end for him as well?
"Tu- a-, k- bu-" Inumaki says something, but I can't hear him. Everything sounds like a blur. Inumaki and Fushiguro both start shouting at me, but it's no use. Nothing reaches my ears. I shake my head in an attempt to clear the ringing noise; it helps a bit.
"Run!" I finally hear. I look behind me to see what they are talking about. It's just Itami and his streak of Energy. The beam repeatedly shoots at the Spirit who is frantically dodging it. One of his arms is already blasted off, as well as parts of his left leg. Just then, a green light advances towards me, threatening to hit me any second. I realize that the Spirit has hidden behind me. I pull up my arms to cover my head, not like it'll help with anything but still. Luckily, the Energy stops mid-air and disappears. Itami looks frustrated.
Without any thought, I turn around and punch the Spirit. Then I'm not sure why I did it.
"Kahh!" He screams, making the ringing noise come back.
'He's a Spirit,' I think with another punch. He's a Spirit. He's a Spirit. It's a Spirit. By now, my mind is set on killing it. After all, Spirits are meant to be killed.
[Woah]
[Really?]
[She's doing it]
[I knew it]
Their thoughts somehow make me more confident, and my hesitation dies away. With a final launch, the Spirit starts flaking away. The terrain changes back to the room we were in, no damage is done to it. As it crumbles into nothing, a small piece of paper floats down, facing the floor. It's only an arm's length away from me. Curiosity getting over me, I reach out a hand to pick it up.
"Takana?" Inumaki bends down in front of me, waving a hand in front of my eyes. I nod and try to pick the paper up with my fumbling hands. I fail. Gojo-sensei and Fushiguro are also behind me. Someone pats my back as the other tries to wipe the blood away.
"Tuna?" Inumaki points at the paper.
[This?]
I nod, and he picks it up for me. I stare at it. Time passes, and I'm not moving. A minute passes, maybe it was an hour, or maybe just a few seconds.
"..." A tear escapes and my head drops down as I see what the paper shows. My eyes are swimming, tears dropping off my cheeks and landing on the ground below me. It's a picture. The picture of Hakuto and I together. We're smiling; not knowing what will happen. We're happy; never guessing that death would be so close. We're together.
"But not anymore..." I whisper out loud.
Then, someone knocks on the door, "everything fine?"
