Chapter 2

"That f*cking son of a b*tch!!" I hear Dad's angry voice ring around the house as he gets back from work. Tomorrow's my 13th birthday, but of course he doesn't have a cake. I sigh as Dad sets foot in the house, his fists clenched up and trembling.

"Rikuto! That's the second time you did it in front of the kids!" Mom tries to calm him down, even slapping him in the face once, "What happened?"

"I got fu- fricking fired!" He rages, his face getting a bit red. He takes his coat off and throws it across the room to where I'm standing. The coat misses my face by an inch and instead hits Mom's favourite flower vase. With a loud CLANG the vase falls down, shattering into a million tiny pieces. The razor-sharp glass goes through my clothes and sink into my skin, where I feel blood starting to drip slowly. I flinch and look at Mom, bracing myself to get shouted at again. Why didn't you catch the coat?! Why did you stay still?! Stop dirtying the floor!

"Rikuto!!" Mom looks like she will explode in any moment. At least it's Dad who's getting yelled. Hakuto quietly makes his way over to me and helps picking the pieces out of my skin.

"I made that one!" Mom shouts in Dad's face, prodding his chin with her finger. Through the commotion, I hear the doorbell ring. Guess Natsuki forgot her keys again.

"You! Open the door!" Mom shouts at me, then goes back to Dad. I don't wait for Hakuto to pick out the rest of the glass and head straight for the door.

Natsuki starts wailing as I open the door, "Mommy!!! Today's test was rigged!!" I flinch and block my ears with my hands and instantly regret it as I feel the glass from my palms scrape the skin around my ears.

"Mommy!!! Daddy!!!" Natsuki yells at the top of her lungs. 

When neither Mom nor Dad gives her any attention, she glares at me, "What did you do? Don't you ever get tired of making Mommy and Daddy angry? Stay quiet for just a day! And what's up with the blood?" She gives me a disgusted look. I lower my head and flinch as I see her hand rise up. As expected, her hand comes down on my head with a loud smack!

"Natsuki! Stop that," Hakuto rushes over to us, pulling me behind his back. I look back and see Mom and Dad still fighting.

"Just because you're a year older than me doesn't mean you get to boss me around!" Natsuki says, crossing her arms. When Hakuto stares at her, she finally walks in, stomping her way over to Mom.

"You okay?" Hakuto asks, "You should learn how to defend yourself, you know?" I nod, and he sighs.

"Listen!!!" Natsuki yells behind me. Hakuto sighs again and leads me to his room. He closes the door and it helps block the shouting a bit. But just a bit. I can still hear what they are saying.
