The Tardis landed with it's usual hissing sound. The Doctor awoke the band, most of whom were slumped half asleep against the railings around the control platform.
"Morning, we're back!"
Once everyone was fully awake and ready the Doctor went over to the Tardis doors. Just before he opened them he crossed his fingers tight and made a quick prayer to The Tardis that it had cooperated this time.
Then he stepped out, into London.
They weren't in the city center like last time, but had landed near the estate Rose lived in. It was still early morning and the hum of the city coming to life was just beginning.
The band stepped out and blinked in the brightness.
"Okay" Said the Doctor "Game plan- The band goes and gets their instruments and whatever rest or nutrients they need, I go and get my trusty companion, we reconvene here at 16 hundred on the dot. Understand?"
"Yes Doctor" chanted all four of them in unison.
"Right, see ya!" The Doctor scarpered.
"Wait!" Yelled Gerard, running over to catch up with him.
The Doctor stopped and sighed
"What's the matter?"
"You won't..." Gerard twisted his hands nervously "you won't abandon us will you?"
"Of course not" the Doctor looked shocked "I would never!"
"Well you say that but you abandoned Rose, how do we know you won't do the same with us? How do we know it's even safe out there? That leerie... How do we know something like that won't happen again" he looked up at him nervously.
"Listen Gerard" said the Doctor, levelling his face with his and looking directly into his eyes.
Gerard blushed, almost hypnotised by it. The Doctor's brownish gold orbs seemed to hold the secrets of the universe. They looked old beyond his years, old beyond time itself.
"I'm going to make a promise with you" he told him "and a time lord keeps his word, for better or for worse, even if it takes 500 years.
I promise to do the best I can to keep you and your friends safe to the end of the universe."
The Doctor picked up Gerard's hand with his own and intertwined their pinkies together.
"Promise?"
"Promise."
He felt slightly guilty about his promise to Gerard, he usually made it a rule never to guarantee anyone's safety. Nothing was ever a guarantee when space and time travelling. But after all he hadn't said that they wouldn't be in danger, only that he would try his best for them not to be.
And that would have to do.
He soon forgot about his guilt anyway as he bounced up the stairs to Rose's flat.
He chapped on the door three times and then straightened his suit and adjusted his hair like a nervous teenager getting ready for his first date.
No one answered straight away so he knocked again.
"Give me a minute Mickey!" Called Rose's voice as she approached the door.
The Doctor chuckled at Mickey's name.
He gave his best winning smile as Rose opened the door...
and slapped him in the face.
"Oww" said the Doctor, rubbing his cheek "What was that for??"
"You abandoned me" cried Rose "again!"
"It's only been a day" sighed the Doctor
"It's been two moths!" Exclaimed Rose "I can't believe you-" she suddenly pulled him into a tight hug "I missed you Doctor"
"I missed you too Rose"
They embraced for what felt like years, but it was more like five minutes before Jacky, Rose's mum interrupted them.
"Ah, The Doctor, I was wondering when you'd be back, come to take my child away from me again have you?"
"I'm afraid so Mrs Tyler" smiled the Doctor, giving her a hug as well
"Well, come in for a cuppa first"
