Devale
I decided to come to work today even though it's the weekend and Dr. Whitfield gave me it off this week. I have been pulling a lot of doubles, but it's been nice shadowing and assisting Dr. Glover in his surgeries. After he was trying to convince to apply for Chief of Surgery, I went home and deeply considered it. There are a lot doctors here that have way more seniority but it'll still be good if I just try. I mean, regardless of how long I've been here, I am still one of the best surgeons St. Joseph Hospital has."What are you doing here? I thought you were off today." Zena questioned me as I soon as I walked into the ICU.
"I um, I wanted to come and shadow Dr. Glover." I tell her. "How are you doing since last night?" I ask quietly.
Zena scoffed and shook her head. I could tell she was embarrassed about her actions yesterday at the birthday party. I don't know why she's so embarrassed, it wouldn't be the first time people from the office saw her acting like a wild animal.
"Look don't trip. Maybe this is what you needed to realize that it's time for you to move on." I suggest making her roll her eyes.
"Yeah I know." She said as the phone started ringing.
I turned around and started walking away towards Dr. Whitfield's office. I saw that she in, so I knocked on the door.
"Come in." she said.
I open the door and peeked my head in. "Hey you got a second?" I ask her.
"Sure, what's up?" She asks as I step into the office.
I close the door behind myself and go to sit down in the seat across from her desk.
"I need some advice." I tell Dr. Whitfield.
"About what?" She asks me.
"Dr. Glover thinks I should apply for the Chief of Surgery position, but I don't know if I'm ready. Plus, there are so many other people with more seniority."
Dr. Whitfield sighs as she continues filling out paper work. "You know what I say Devale-"
"Seniority doesn't always mean skill." I finish her statement.
She looked up at me and smiled. "Yep you got it. I think you would be a great leader for the department." She says. "And I will sign off on it." She tells me with a smile on her face.
I smile widely and nod my head. "Thanks Dr. Whitfield, I'm going to apply today. Since tomorrow is the last day." I tell her. "Now one last thing-"
"If you like her, take her out on a date." Dr. Whitfield said without me even asking her anything.
"How'd you know I was about to ask you about that?" I ask her.
"Devale I am 67 years old... That means I'm wise." She said proudly. "Crystal is a lovely woman. If she likes good guys, I'm sure she'll give you another chance." She told me.
