"Here's those papers you asked me for earlier." I said handing my clipboard to Dr. Glover.
"Thank you Devale." He said. "I really appreciate you picking up the slack while I was gone." he said.
I shrug my shoulders. "Yeah that's no problem. Are you feeling better?" I ask my boss.
"Uh yeah. I feel fine." He tapped my shoulder before walking away.
It's been a busy day in the hospital. I don't know why but sometimes I think that I'll get a slow day. There's no such thing as a slow day in a hospital. Even receptionists are here for damn near 24 hours. I did a double shift today. There's nothing else for me to do. My mom and dad went home and Crystal won't talk to me.
I've been thinking about her all day. Every time I try to text her she just leaves me on read. I'd feel better if she didn't open it at all but to be left on read, that's a huge disappointment.
"Hey Devale." I heard behind me.
I turned around and saw Lauren approaching me with a little girl. She was holding her hand. The toddler had a pacifier in her mouth. She couldn't have been older than two years old.
"What's up?" I ask.
Lauren smiled and handed me an envelope. "This is for you." she said.
"What is this for?" I ask confused.
She smacked her lips. "You really don't remember?" She asked me.
I shook my head. I was stuck.
"It's your surgeon anniversary. You became a surgeon today, two years ago." She said. "Look Devale whatever happened with us, I want to leave it in the past. I don't want to be awkward while we're performing a surgery on each other. I want to be able to work with you as a partner, like we used to." She explained and I listened to everything she was saying.
"Thank you." I said nodding my head. "I really appreciate this."
"Yeah it's just a little something." She said.
I slapped the envelope on my hand before sighing deeply.
"I owe you a huge apology. I was a terrible boyfriend I should've supported you more." I say making Lauren shake her head.
"Devale it's okay." She said touching my hand. "I forgive you. I've moved on, I'm married and I have a beautiful princess." She said pinching her daughter's cheek.
"She is beautiful." I say looking down.
"Say hi, Jayla." Lauren said taking the pacifier out her daughter's mouth. "I'm trying to get her off this thing but she just won't let it go." She said shaking her head.
