Devale
After the painters left, I told Lance and Michael that I'd meet up with them at the bar by the hospital. They said they had something to tell me. Every time I leave work, I miss something. But I have been thinking about Zena and I know she's at Crystal's house. I hope she's okay and even though what Morris did was wrong he's still my friend. I don't want him to go to prison. This whole thing could've just been avoided if they would've left each other alone a long time ago. But nobody listens to their friends anymore. I always knew Morris was a jealous lover and a little quick to anger but I didn't see him as a physically abusive partner. I've known him the longest out of everybody at the hospital and for some reason I'm the most shocked.
"Hey guys sorry I'm late." I said sitting down at the table with them.
"What's with sad look on your face?" Michael asked rubbing my cheek.
I slapped his hand.
"Nigga don't touch me." I said.
Lance and him just started laughing. They thought it was the funniest thing ever. I knew they were tired from their long shift of saving lives because it was not that funny.
"Well let me tell you what happened when you left work. We saw Crystal talking to some guy from the ER." Lance said.
I shrugged my shoulders. "So what?" I ask looking around.
"She was flirting and touching his arm. But we didn't get s good look at his face so I can't tell you who it was." Lance continued the story.
The story was irrelevant because they had no proof that it was anything more than a friendly conversation. They also don't even know who she was talking to. It could've been a patient or an intern. Not that it matters because she's not even my woman.
"I don't care. She can talk to whoever she wants." I say waving it off. "Look who I'm going to the ball with..." I say pulling my phone out.
Michael stood up and walked around the table as Lance leaned over and looked in my phone.
"Is that-"
"Yes it is. She asked me today and I told her yes because she's fine as hell." I brag to my friends.
Michael huffed loudly and smiled. "Nigga you always did have a strong rebound game." He said sounding proud.
"Man it's not like that, but if Crystal doesn't want to be with me I can't force her. I'm going to keep playing the field." I said leaning back in my seat. "Does that seem bad?" I ask my co-workers.
They gave each other nonchalant looks before shrugging. I smacked my lips and rolled my eyes.
"Y'all niggas don't know nothing." I said rubbing my head.
"Don't be mad at us cause you letting your new woman, who's not even your woman put you in your place." Michael said.
"Nobody is putting me in my place." I said shaking my head.
