I turned off the bathroom sink and grabbed a paper towel to dry my hands. My pager continued making nose as it rested on my hip. I rolled my eyes and walked out the bathroom.
Today has been a busy day in the hospital. There's been two car accidents and then someone lost their finger trying to do illegal fireworks. Plus, I've been thinking about Boris non stop. He called me last night and despite me having a cold and needing to rest, we talked on the phone all night.
It feels nice just to have somebody to talk to and not argue. Every time I talk to Devale it's becomes and argument. I don't want to argue with a man that's not even worth my time and energy. Especially when there is somebody who is being kind and being a gentlemen. Boris is very kind and seems to be a honest person.
"Dr. Whitfield you paged me?" I ask seeing her at the front desk.
"Yes I did, I have those discharge papers for 429." She said handing them to me.
"Ah yes, thank you. I love Mrs. Wilson but I think she's here for the pudding cups." I say making Dr. Whitfield laugh. "Hey how'd that surgery go?" I ask her.
"Oh it went fine. Mr. Lewis is fine, he actually might be able to go home soon." She said.
"Hey Dr. Whitfield I ju-- Sorry am I interrupting something?" I turn my head to see Lauren approaching us.
She had a white coat and scrubs, immediately I was confused. She probably saw it on my face because she started laughing a little bit.
"I am sorry. I just wanted to tell you that I got all the names of the people who want to volunteer at this year's blood drive." She said handing the clipboard to Dr. Whitfield.
"Thank you Lauren." She said. "Oh this is Dr. Hayslett-"
"Oh we've met." Lauren said. "Crystal right?"
"Dr. Hayslett is fine... I said softly crossing my hands. "I have patients I have to get back to." I said stepping backwards.
I turned around and went to the elevator. I pushed the upstairs and button and waited for the door to open. When the door opened I rolled my eyes. Zena was standing with her arms crossed. It was either stay downstairs with Lauren and Dr. Whitfield or go upstairs with Zena. I definitely wasn't about to hold a conversation with Devale's ex.
"Hi." Zena said trying not be awkward.
"Hi."
"Are you okay?" Zena asked making me roll my eyes.
I shake my head. "We don't have to hold a conversation."
"Crystal I'm sorry. I know I was a bitch." She said. "And a bad friend." She apologized.
I looked at her and smirked. "A bad friend and a bitch, yes. Those are very good summaries of you." I say crossing my arms.
The elevators doors opened and we both walked out. I started walking and she followed me like a little lost puppy.
