Chapter Twenty-Seven

Devale

Knock. Knock. Knock.

"Come in." I said from my office chair.

It feels good to have my own space. Well, I have to share it with Lauren from time to time but she only comes here when she really needs soem peace and quiet. She can't sit in one spot for too long.

Dr. Glover is gone and hopefully getting better but I think I deserved this promotion. I wouldn't expect him to make Lauren co-chief, that was kind of random. However, we don't have any problems communicating about our job. We kind of ignore the fact that we have a child together. There hasn't really been a day for us to just chill and talk about how we're going to co-parent.

"Hey you wanted to see me?" Maya asked coming into my office.

She closed the door behind her and came to sit down.

"Yeah I need to talk to you about something." I said closing my notepad.

"What is it?" She asked.

"Uh yeah I need to a doctor next week on the psych floor. Congratulations-"

Maya cut me off before I could say anything else by just raising her hand.

"No way. I'm not doing it."

"Why not?" I ask her.

"Because those shifts are too long and those patients are craz-- Look I'm just not doing it." She said standing up.

"Okay well I wasn't asking you I was telling you." I say standing up.

"Well that's not even your call that's Dr. Whitfield's call." Maya said rolling her eyes.

"Well Dr. Whitfield actually told me to relay the message to you. So don't be mad at me be mad at her."

"Is this payback for what happened the other day?" Maya asked crossing her arms. "Are your little feelings hurt because I told you about yourself?" She asked in a fake whiny tone.

I smacked my lips and waved her off. "Girl please." I said sittign down.

"Because if that is the problem then I have no issue making it up to you." She said changing her tone.

"Offering sexual favors in place of a work decision? That's a two week suspension."

"Devale shit! Come on! What is your problem?" She asked raising her face. "Why are you acting like that?" She asked.

"Acting like what?" I say confused.

"Acting like you don't know how to have fun anymore. Before Crystal came you used to be the life of the party." She reminded me.

I smiled and nodded my head. I did use to be the life of the party and also the talk of the hospital. But I don't want that kind of rep anymore, I'm trying to change.

"Look Maya I'm happy with Crystal and I'm trying to change. So with that being said, I'll see you next week and please don't try that again." I said referring to her seductive act.

She didn't say anything else. She just rolled her eyes and opened the office door.

"What are you doing in here?" Crystal asked making me shoot out of my seat.

"Nothing." Maya and I both answered.

"We were just talking." I said shrugging.

"Can you leave? I have to talk to Dr. Ellis." Crystal said in a sarcastic tone.

Maya sucked her teeth before walking out the door. "Whatever." She said.

Crystal cut her off by closing the door behind her. I sat down back in my seat and took a deep breath. When I came back to reality I saw Crystal staring at me with a hard glare on her face. She was pissed about something. But she looked so cute.
