PERCY
"Hey, Percy, take this." Aurelius threw a pouch to me.
I opened it and it looked like grey sand. I raised an eyebrow. "What is it?"
"Vanishing powder. You're gonna need it. We need to take 'em by surprise. We'll have you sneak behind them while we draw their attention. I'd do it, but chain mail isn't very silent, Desmond is about as graceful as an Ox, and I need Dom to watch my back." I nodded.
"Just take a pinch of it and throw it at your feet. You'll be invisible 'til you attack someone."
-break of the line-
Making my way through the overrun base, I didn't know where Stormpike got his information from. There weren't 15 Orcs, it was more like 30. These guys were pretty scary looking, too, with most of them having sickly Green skin and standing at 6 feet or taller. However, that wasn't what was most disturbing. They were ripped and made even Ares look like a wimp. They had a permanent grimace across their faces.
I got to the back of the camp and saw the first Orc was all alone. I went in for the kill when I heard a horn blow from the other side of the base. 'That's Dom's signal.' As the other Orcs bound to action, I pulled my swords out and ran behind the Orc, stabbing the blade straight into the back of his head, the sword jutting out of his mouth. I pulled the sword out and made my way behind them when and arrow flew by my head. I instinctively looked up to where it came from.
'Shit, they didn't mention archers, either.' I ran to cover behind a tree. I looked towards the group to see how they were doing, and it wasn't going bad, but it wasn't good either.
Aurelius was fighting each orc one at a time. Dom was to his right throwing hammers of which were manifested from the light. The hammers threw themselves at the enemies, and Desmond was casting smite at anyone trying to get behind their line. I ran to the orcs' back line, hacking and stabbing my way to them. I quickly noticed the arrows had stopped raining on us after reaching the line, and as I looked back up to where the archers we supposed to be, I saw they were dead.
"Someone else is in here, guys! The archers on the hill are dead!"
Aurelius turned pale. "As if this could get any fucking worse!"
"Ahhhh!" He slammed the sharp end of his kite shield into an orc's throat, crushing its windpipe entirely. The fatigue began to set in for all of us, save Dom. The steadfast dwarf radiated the light, much as if he were the light himself.
I got distracted when I looked back up on the ridge where the archers were and saw two slender silhouettes there.
"LOKTAR OGAR!!" An orc yelled as his axe came flying to cleave my head.
In an instant after he threw his axe, an arrow pierced his skull, and he fell to the ground, utterly lifeless. One by one they fell like leaves. They couldn't retreat, either, because we stood at their only exit. We stood there amongst our slain foes. This wasn't like the monsters I've fought; these were warriors. They don't turn to dust after death. I looked into the expressions strewn across their faces and fear wasn't among the emotions you could see.
"For orcs, battle is everything, lad. Honor for their clan and their own self reputation means more than life. They may be brutes and fierce warriors, but they live and die with honor," Dom said in a somber tone.
"Look, you guys can sit there and be depressed if you want, but we should probably thank the archers that just saved our asses," Aurelius said. He turned to see Desmond staring at him with an annoyed expression. "What?" He said as he shrugged his shoulders, "Our job's done. Let's go get our reward."
"You're an ass, you know that, right?"
"Okay, and...?"
Desmond just sighed.
The two archers made their way down from the ridge. The first one, I noticed, had really long ears, blue skin, and glowing eyes. She was pretty, but my breath hitched when I saw the second archer. Her obsidian eyes piercing me like an arrow as I remembered the girl I watched die all those years ago. She was standing right in front of me again.
"What are you males doing, causing all this trouble?" She spat. She saw me looking at her, not aware of who I was yet because my hood covered my face. "What are you looking at, boy?" She said with disgust. I couldn't find the words, so I dropped my hood and her eyes widened. Her mouth fell open.
"P-Perseus," she stammered out, a shocked expression on her face.
"It's me, Zoe."
The blue long-eared lady, understanding the situation, grabbed the others and said, "Come on, my brave friends, I think they need sometime alone."
"When you're done, Percy, we will be by the tunnel, back to Stormpikes' outpost," Dom said
When they were out of ear shot, we just sat there, looking at each other in absolute silence. Suddenly, out of no where, she charged at me. I flinched, expecting an impact, but instead she wrapped her arms around me and put her head against my chest. We broke apart and I put my hand under her chin.
"I knew you'd find your way back to me, just like Anaklusmos." I saw her face flush. "You're just as beautiful as the day you left us."
I pulled her back into a tight embrace.
