As I watched Zoe run away, I also noticed Aurelias walking in the opposite direction of her as she ran past him, shoving him out of the way. As he got closer he looked back. "Sheesh, what's her issue?" rolling his eyes in the process. "So you ready for another adventure my man? Dom said he wasn't gonna come, something about 'never wanting to step foot in that light forsaken place again.' I think he's been drinking too much thunderbrew again, personally!" he laughed. I did not find it entertaining, to say the least. Aurelias lately had been distant anytime Desmond or I asked him about what happened when we fought those gnolls in the forest. He would either change the subject or walk away and ignore us.
I had enough. " We need to talk now, Aurelias. You've been acting differently, you haven't been sleeping right since Elwynn. I-... we are worried about you, please, talk to us man." I pleaded, and somewhat demanded. Aurelias looked at me for a second, then let out a deep sigh. " Look, Perce, I know you mean well, but you can't act like Zoe and you aren't keeping secrets either." he was trying to deflect. " No no more of that, I want the truth buddy. I'm not out to get you, I just wanna know whats wrong, we all do, and it might make you feel better." He glared at me, and I reciprocated. He let up eventually, taking in a deep breath, running both his hands through his hair to comfort himself. If there is one thing I learned from my Wise girl, it was her teaching me how to read people. It's a skill that's helped me so much in the strange world.
"Okay I'll make you a deal, alright?" He extended a hand. I raised an eyebrow at this. "When we get back from Duskwood, I will tell you everything, but you gotta tell me everything too, if not, deals off the table. We all have secrets, and if you want me to trust you, you have to trust me too, deal?" I looked at his hand, then looked him in his eyes and thought for a second. " You would think I was insane if I told you about my life." he raised an eyebrow amused.
"Azeroth was literally invaded by a bunch of hulking green aliens through an interplanetary portal powered by demonic magic, who later enslaved sentient red dragons. The kingdom of Lordaeron literally fought off an undead scourge five years ago, and we have lizard fish people that overwhelm adventures about twice their size, it will take quite a bit to make me think you are lying to me, or you are in fact, out of your fucking mind." he deadpanned
We just stared at each other for a minute in silence. "Deal." I said definitively, shaking his hands. I never thought about it til now, But Aurelias and myself, though from entirely different universes, were similar in a few ways. We were both kids thrown into a world of chaos, him being an orphan who lived on the streets, stealing to survive and me, being a demigod, just fighting to see the next day. We both found refuge, Him with Desmond's father, and me with Camp Half-blood and my friends.
I smiled wistfully, thinking about my old friends and my mom. I wonder what they are up to right now. I wish they could see me in this world, I wish I could talk to my mother once more, ask her how her and Paul were doing, See my father once more, and laugh at Zeus being the drama queen he is. Even my friends, who I only knew for a little bit, and ones I knew for longer, Leo, Frank, Hazel, Piper, Jason, Reyna, Thalia, and Nico. Calling Thalia Pinecone face and all our fights. Nico, I still felt a lot of guilt over Bianca, Nico still has every right to hate me for that. Tyson, the thought of the big guy getting the news he'd never see me again must have been devastating. Even Clarisse, we may have not had the best relationship, but eventually I would have liked to think we would've become friend's. Chiron, I wouldn't have missed his taste in music, but I would always appreciate the first teacher who believed in me. And Annabeth, I missed her the most, her piercing gray eyes analyzing everything, her golden princess curls cascaded down the sides of her face and to her shoulders. The annoyed look she'd get when I did or said something stupid, when she called me Seaweed Brain. All the time we spent together in danger. I missed her kisses more than anything.
I was brought out of my wistful thinking by a stoic friend "Hey, you okay? Percy you are freaking me the fuck out dude." Aurelias said, waving. I stifled a laugh letting out a wistful smile. " Just thinking about home." Just then at the edge of dock the rest of our party showed up, the tall male night elf our Co guild master Zeinnor leading the way with a female night elf Satorn and a dwarf warrior by the name of Frogolir Granitemantle at their rear. " So this is where you guys have been, are you all ready? We should get going to Duskwood during the day since at night it's pretty much a death sentence, also I'd hate to see what mess Chester has gotten himself into."
"Chester, who's that?" Aurelias asked, Frogolir and Satorn exchanged a smug grin with each other. Zeinnor then put his head in his hand's sighing heavily. "Chester is... well not really a full member of the guild just yet, because he is still to young to join, only being fifteen, but he is a prodigy in the arcane arts, and it seems that the two behind me misled me about his work in Duskwood on the Twilight Grove. The fool apparently went there to find someone to take him to the Tower of Karazhan, he is obsessed with books and he is obsessed with that abandoned tower. He's not good with reading the room either, what started as a joke he took, ugh, very.. literally you would say..."
"So go to a town swallowed in eternal darkness because of a cursed abandoned tower, to make sure a teenager isn't missing, or worse, dead. Retrieve supplies, and make it back here before the blackrock orcs destroy all of Lakeshire." Aurelias said. " But, we are teenagers." I deadpanned. Satorn looked at Frogolir. " We are gonna fucking die, arent we?"
Frogolir grunted and in a gaelic accent " Ehh, Maybe that's the fun part lassy, what the point of an adventure if there's no threat of death or disembowelment?"
Zeinnor sighed " Why is it always me?..." he muttered. "Alright, we are losing daylight, let's go already!" I stated, and we left the docks to the road, on a job that would haunt us the rest of our lives.
