Later that evening, Y/N and her mother sat at the dinner table waiting for Victor to return home so they could eat dinner. He had spent the entire day with Hop after Leon had left, and had yet to come home. As the sun was setting and the sky was turning dark, their mother began to worry until she heard the front door open.
"What took you so long, young man?" she questioned, standing up and placing her hands around her hips.
"Sorry, mom..." Victor sweat dropped. "Hop and I were pretending to be trainers just like Leon, and we lost track of time."
"It's fine, honey. Just let me know next time you plan on being gone the entire day. Now come here, dinners ready."
As he went up to the dinner table, he sat down and the three started eating. After taking a couple of bites, Victor couldn't contain himself and blurted out all his exciting thoughts.
"Isn't Leon just so cool?" he exclaimed. "Hop and I are going to enter the gym challenge when we turn ten too!"
Their mother dropped her fork on the glass plate that held her food, and looked over at her son.
"I'm sorry, what did you say?" she asked.
"I'm going to enter the gym challenge mom!" Victor smiled, as his mother shook her head.
"No, honey. Ten is way too young to go off by yourself. You need to finish school first before thinking about anything like that."
"But mom-"
"No buts." she quickly replied. "It is not safe out there for someone that young, even if you have a friend with you or not."
"That's not fair!" he whined, while storming off to his room and slamming the door shut.
"Are you wanting to leave as well?" she quickly asked Y/N.
"Um, no mom..." she whispered, as she nodded.
"Your brother doesn't understand now, but will one day. There are so many things out in the world that can hurt you. Until you both are old enough to be on your own, you will stay here." Y/N was young, but understood where their mother was coming from.
Ever since their dad passed away, she had been extremely strict and constantly worried about her children. Maybe one day they could go out on their own and become pokémon trainers and try the gym challenge, but that was a long ways away.
As they finished their meal, their mother kissed Y/N's head and told her goodnight, as she went to her bedroom and fell asleep.

Three years had gone by, and the twins and Hop were now ten years old. Their mother never changed her mind about letting Victor leave to become a trainer, despite him asking every single day.
Leon was now Galar's newest Champion, even at such a young age. He was typically busy most days, and Y/N hadn't seen him since he left for his gym challenge three years ago. It was now summer break, and she had just gotten home from school with her brother, just to be immediately left as he went to go hang out with Hop.
"Victor, stop." their mother shouted, as his hand was on the front door. "Why don't you bring your sister with you?"
"Ugh. Do I have to, mom? Me and Hop were going to watch Leon's match live on TV, and I don't want her to be all 'googly eyed' watching him behind us."
As Y/N's face grew red, she crossed her arms and stormed into her room, while their mother looked at Victor with disappointment in her eyes.
"Do you have to pick on her?" she sighed. "So she has a little crush. You don't hear either of us making fun of you every time Professor Magnolia's granddaughter comes around..."
