(Your Pov)
The day came and went, as did tomorrow, and the day after that. Loki explained everything you've ever questioned about his life, even when Thor did tease and tell everyone. But his actions backfired, since Loki hadn't been lying. The prince received more attention than Thor hoped to ever take away.
His mother had some amazing insights. She encouraged Loki to talk to you whenever appropriate, whether it be a whisper or screaming at the top of his lungs. And for you to do the same, that your whispers to Loki would be appreciated. Frigga wanted her son to grow this friendship, even if she seemed to know more than she let on. As Loki explained later that evening.
Time pushed forward, and the two of you talked endlessly. It was an easy friendship now that you could communicate. And after centuries of that, maybe even an easy relationship. Though you never said such things. If you haven't met, seen one another, touched, or even pass by one another absentmindedly, how could you claim you were courting? The restrictions didn't stop the feelings, however, and you would dream of what the future might hold.
Years passed, and you even started learning magic. Loki was your tutor, and enjoyed teaching the craft just as much as you loved wielding it. And through magic, the two of you found other benefits of your connection. If you focused, you could talk telepathically. For a few seconds, anyway. It was helpful if there was suddenly an interruption, or you were among the mortals. Talking to yourself tends to draw unnecessary attention.
Years turned into decades, and decades into a hundred years. Time passed in the mortal realm, just as time passed in Asgard. The brothers' quarrels settled over time, as they realised that arguing over little things was meaningless in the end. But the bickering was replaced with battles, and there was more than one occasion that you had to talk down a seething Loki.
Especially when he found out that Thor was the crown prince. How Loki never even stood a chance to be king, as was the plan from the beginning. He would be the dark prince; the shadow of mischief forever hiding behind the golden child.
You listened as Loki ranted about his troubles, how his dreams of ruling were crushed. His fears that he would never amount to anything memorable. You talked and did your best to comfort him, convincing the trickster that this wasn't the end of the world. That he could still be remembered as a glorious leader, even if it wasn't at the head of a kingdom.
You helped him, and he helped you. When your mother disappeared from the face of the Earth some years later. You searched all night for her, finding nothing. She was simply... gone. Leaving you at 16 in human years to fend for yourself in this horrible world.
Loki talked you through your search, offering as many ideas as he possibly could. Even lending what tracking spells he knew, but you were too inexperienced to wield them. They fizzed out over and over again as you tried to find where she had gone.
You never did find her. Even now, an eternity later, as you waited with Loki during his brother's coronation. The two of you had made a pact of sorts. Whenever one is in an official or public setting, the other must be as quiet as possible. It was the only way to remain sane.
It was allowed to listen in, however. As much as one could. But right now, you couldn't tell what was happening. As Loki ran about, talking about frost giants in the palace. Talking about bringing vengeance for the realm.
You didn't know what was happening. And out of respect for your soulmate, you didn't intervene. He was 1480 now, just as you were. If at 21 human years one can't function on your own, then he needed to reevaluate his life.
What you didn't know was that his plan had gone so wrong. Loki only ever wanted to disrupt Thor's coronation, not allow murder. Chaos, not genocide.
He didn't talk for days. Loki censored his words, knowing full well you were becoming antsy to hear from him. But he didn't allow himself that luxury.
Because he was king. Somehow, in some twisted way that made you concerned for the consequences to come. You heard his words: how he was lied to. He was a monster. He was a Jotun.
When his heart broke of betrayal, yours shattered right along with it.
You offered what words of kindness you could, gaining only a quiet thank you. Loki had retreated so far into his mind that even you couldn't coerce him to come out again. He was hurting, and he was broken.
And you cried in his place.
Some days you listened, and others you tried to ignore him. You didn't know what he planned to get out of this mess, and there was nothing you could do about it. So you resigned yourself to your own modern life, in cheery 2011.
It wasn't long until his actions caught up to him. "I could have done it father!" Loki shouted, as it cut through your normal day routine. Living in New York had its benefits, namely all the people. It made it easy to blend into the crowd.
But reversely so, the problem was also all of the people. As you heard his shout, your walk slowed. He had been fighting something not two moments ago, yet now shouted as if he were going to give it all away. You listened in as if you were right beside him.
"For you!" What was going on? What was Loki doing? "For all of us!" You heard his ragged breaths as your soulmate strained, no doubt his father saying something in reply.
You didn't notice where you had stopped, his voice so clear to you now. "Loki, no." You whisper, willing for him to think through his actions. "Please."
And like that, the strain stopped. You could hear as wind rushed past his body, dulling your senses of anything in the real world. "I'm sorry."
HRNGGG. A car horn blared, tearing you from your thoughts. You didn't hear the shouts from those watching. You didn't notice as cars barely missed your form.
But the truck noticed you, slamming on his brakes yet not nearly in time.
It took a long second for you to realise what was happening. And by then, there was no way to avoid the crash. You could only hope to protect yourself.
"Shit!" A spell was summoned in your hands, as you form a shield just before the collision to help soften the blow.
You couldn't stop a truck. But you could try.
It collided with your magic, the spell holding strong for a few seconds. Enough to slow the vehicle so that it wouldn't kill you. Onlookers shouted in disbelief at the sudden energy shining green as it protected you, and then in fear as it shattered. Bursting the left over shards in all directions, stopping the truck.
But it hit you, launching you back just as if you had taken the truck full force. Your head hit the pavement, as your grasp on consciousness slipped out of reach.
You didn't hear Loki's last word to you. "Y/N?"
