(Loki's Pov)
"Fury!" She screamed, "Fury! Get back here!" Why must she do this? It would be so much simpler if she simply removed herself from harm's way. From his way. "He's going to-"
"Don't do this, Y/N." Loki sighed to himself, scepter in hand. Thanos had just explained the extent of their plot, how the control of the universe hung in balance over the battle to come. He still watched the prince's every movement, as he dealt with the eavesdropper.
The titan chuckled. "The soulmate." He rose from his chair, as Loki bowed his head. His sickened mind demanded so. His actions were not of his own anymore, but his heart knew to keep the boundaries intact. One boundary.
Y/N.
His soulmate. The one from Midgard. Loki wouldn't dare allow harm or pain to come to her by his own hand. Twisted intentions or not. Scepter or not. She was not to be hurt.
Loki was too tired to fight control, especially one that played to his own desires. But there was always one that trumped every other need of his. If it came down to his death or Y/N's...
"What of it?"
"She has heard everything of our plans."
He stopped his pace. "Deal with it. Do not let her interfere." Thanos said pointedly, yet still fully aware that every man had his weakness. Someone who held his heart and in the end held the most influence over him. And in Loki's case, the one person who could have any hope to break the control forced upon him.
But at Loki's words, she started screaming for this 'Fury'. Strange she would call to her captor for help, but he supposed there was little else she could do. No one else was there.
He wasn't there. Even though Loki longed so much to just have her in his arms.
But it was a command, and to defy a command meant unimaginable pain. Besides, Loki could make sure she was both safe and didn't intervene. Satisfying both sides of himself now.
"He's going to attack Earth!" Loki used the power of the staff to fuel his spell, knowing she wouldn't be able to resist. He used the soulmate connection to cover the distance, letting it take over her mind. "He's..."
It wouldn't hurt her. He would never hurt her.
But she would sleep through all the chaos, all the lies, and all the pain that the attack would cause. Living out her favorite memories, whatever they may be.
Loki wouldn't let her suffer anymore.
"She is no longer a problem." Loki said, looking up to the madman before him. "Shall we begin?"
*
He arrived on Earth the following day, after having prepared for the invasion. Thanos would lend his army, in exchange for the infinity stones of Earth. The tesseract, namely. He supplied the scepter, and Loki attacked.
Battle after battle. The days passed as Loki made a plan of his own, leading to the Avenger's creation. He knew his brother would arrive at some point, and try to convince Loki to stop this madness.
But it wasn't his own madness that drove Loki to commit these crimes. His memories were twisted and strung out of reach just as his will to defy the whispers- not of Y/N, but Thanos's. Thor pleaded, and threatened, and even tried to make him guilty for attacking the home of his soulmate.
As if he didn't already know these things.
As if he didn't already loathe himself for falling so far. Of giving in. Loki did hope at first in the void, that maybe someone would rush to his rescue. Thor, Odin, or perhaps Heimdal would see his pain. But as the months passed the prince lost hope, Y/N still the only one who ever even tried to see the good in him.
But still, it led to his capture. As he taunted and mocked to draw out the Hulk. Y/N wasn't here on the helicarrier. Loki wished so badly to see her, but knew that such things when he could barely recognize his actions would do more harm than good. He could feel his spell keeping her asleep. She was safe, even if he wasn't by her side.
He escaped, inevitably. Then marched his way to Stark Tower to take over their city. Thanos and his will through the scepter convinced him time and time again to follow through with the plan, despite the fact that Loki knew otherwise. He needed to be stopped. Thanos couldn't win.
"Can't you see this is madness?" Thor said as they battled, forcing Loki to watch what his army did. Midgard would forever see the Chitauri as the soldiers under Loki's command.
"It's too late." He breathed, knowing the damages could not be undone. He couldn't stop when Thanos was watching. When his influence was still heavy in his mind.
It wasn't until the Hulk appeared that it was broken. The scepter's power lifted and discarded, the spells he had cast gone along with it.
Including the one placed on Y/N. Perhaps she was still asleep, but she would not stay so for long.
The Avengers won. Thor hauled his broken ass back to Asgard to face punishment for his crimes, not a word spoken about any other matter. Because seeing Y/N, knowing her condition, or any other request that resembled staying on Midgard was off the table. As was any explanation of the prince's actions, those saved for the courts.
But knowing Odin, he wouldn't receive any kind of normal punishment. Not the banishment that Thor received, nor just to have his magic suspended. No, his crimes against the realms were too great.
Loki would live the rest of his life in the dungeons.
