I woke up with someone banging on my door. I groaned and rolled over to check the time. It was 6:45am. Who would be knocking on my door at 6:45 in the morning?! I sat up sighing. "I'm coming!" I hollered at the door and grabbed my silk housecoat and wrapped it around me and walked over to the door. I swung it open and immediately wished I hadn't. Standing in the doorway was Clay. I felt tears come to my eyes, but I pushed them down. "What are you doing here Clay? How did you even find out where I was?" He looked at me with sad tired eyes. "Margret told me you were here. So...Can I come in?" Clay asked. "Uh..yeeaahh." I cleared my throat and tried to steady my voice. "Yeah. Come on in." I opened the door further so he could come in. He stepped in and looked around. He walked over to the couch and sat down; I followed behind him and sat down. "So...what do you need?" I asked after a few minutes. He looked over at me for the first time. "I came to tell you my side of the story." I sighed. "Clay." He cut me off. "No Elana. There's stuff I need to explain. I need to tell you the whole story." I just nodded. "Then tell it." He took a deep breath. "Well Ashley is a girl I met right before I left for college. She graduated with me and the boys. You had just come back from the hospital after they had made you forget...she was there for me. I was a mess Elana. It turns out she was going to the same university I was going too. As soon as we got there she took me with her to a party. We got drunk, and I ended up marrying her. It was a mistake Elana, you have to believe me. I don't even remember it. I just woke up and she told me what had happened. I tried to make it work, but she's just not the one for me, you are. I wanted to get a divorce, but she told me she was pregnant. I found out a couple of months later that she wasn't she just said that so I would stay. I left. I transferred to a new college and I haven't seen her or talked to her since she showed up at my house Tuesday. Elana please you've got to believe me." I looked at him and nodded. "I believe you." He smiled and moved to wrap his arms around me, but I got up and moved. "Clay, that doesn't make everything magically better. You are married and I won't be the other woman." He jumped up. "I'll get a divorce!" I shook my head tears coming to me eyes. "I won't be the reason you left your wife. I can't break up a marriage." Tears streamed down his face; realization came across his face. "Elana please." He came towards me and held his arm out to grab my hand, but I pulled my hand away. "No Clay." I said more forcefully and stepping towards the door. I opened it and looked back at him. He walked towards it, but stopped when he got to me. "I love you. I always have and I always will." I looked down. "I love you too." I whispered. He walked out the door and I shut it finally letting the tears fall down my face. I crumpled to the floor. Oh my gosh! I can't do this anymore.
