Storm

I have a 6 year old.

6 years of unconditional love, growing personality, and the growth of motherhood within myself. There is no place I rather be than with my little girl.

And 6 more future years of finding glitter in her hair.

"Pumpkin why would you let Ava put glitter in your hair," I ask looking at my hands and the glitter stares back at me. And now glitter is going to be on my hands for the next 6 years.

"Because it's my birthday," she answers looking at me in the bathroom mirror. Star is very tinder-headed when she was getting her braids she was moving around in the chair looking like she's on the brick of tears. So when we take the hair down wash day is going to be hell for me.

She's right it is her birthday, and this one I know is going to stick in her head.

"Mommy," she calls out as I gather her hair to put it in a ponytail, "yes," I look at her in the mirror.

"Do I look like you or dada," she asks losing disconnect from my eyes and staring into her own.

I know who she means when she says dada, she mainly calls Seth 'daddy Seth' or 'daddy'. She's always called Dominic 'dada'.

Star is such a beautiful kid... I won't take that away from Dominic he has nice genes. Sometimes she looks like him when she makes certain faces, but most of the time she looks like me.

"I think you look like me and Dominic," I place my hands on her shoulders.

Aura really planned every detail of this party. From her pink Spider-Man dress all the way to the interior of every 'cabin' being pink and Spider-Man themed- I still don't get why they call theme cabins. They're mansions with fake wood.

"Is he coming," she asks her voice lowering.

Shaking my head she smiles.

She fucking smiles?...

"Why are you smiling," I ask with a laugh expecting tears and a bunch of whys...

I'm not sure why I expected that, she's made it pretty clear she's upset with Dominic right now.

"Because I get to blow out my own candles," she jumps off the stool running into the connected room.

If Dominic would've let me live my life he could've built a better relationship with Star. It's been a year, and not too long ago Seth gave him a number so her could call to speak to Star. He never once called and when Star did call he didn't answer. I didn't want to interfere in her relationship with him, so I never told her 'don't call him' even after he did what he did.

I don't care if the world was holding me from my daughter I will still find a way to tell her I love her every single day. If I was in Dominic's shoes I would be calling everyday to see how my daughter's grades are, what are her new hobbies, and simply how she's feeling.

I wouldn't be calling to see where the other parent is.

Hearing Star's laugh I walk out the restroom to see her being held in the air by Seth, "happy birthday," he brings her down hugging her as the giggling continues, "big 6," he adds on.
