(Many hours later...)

Streaks of morning rays are trickling through the curtains as Clarke lays propped on her side, running her fingers along the ink on Lexa's arm. Leaning forward to softly kiss her shoulder blade, she grins when her lips make contact with the warm skin, still sticky with sweat. The brunette had devoured every ounce of her over and over, showing off her warrior's stamina, until her body finally fell still with exhaustion, only then allowing Clarke to pin her on her back and return the many, many favors.

She didn't know what she had expected, to finally be with Lexa like this. It honestly wasn't something she'd really dwelled on before the mountain, despite the initial kiss and all the jitters and nerves it evoked. Then after being brought to Polis by Roan, her anger may have chipped away but Lexa still seemed so... untouchable and off-limits.

It all still felt very off-limits, but as for untouchable, she didn't know how she was going to ever get her fingers to stop touching the tan skin or brown strands of hair that were next to her.  She knew she was Lexa's in every sense of the word, whether she was lying in the same bed or hundreds of miles away. Her heart was going to stay here in this room, in this bed no matter where she had to go from here.  The thought of being hundreds of miles away from Lexa suddenly made her stomach turn, her mind refused to accept it as a possibility, let alone her pending reality.

Unable to stop replaying their bodies tangled together, Clarke couldn't sleep, content tracing the tattoos in front of her while her forest girl drifted into her dreams, now undoubtedly much more vivid than anything she could have imagined before.

"Lex" she whispers, hoping to get no response. She does not want the other girl to be awake just yet.  Her mind is being wrenched back to reality realizing the kill order is officially in effect.  What she plans to do when anyone discovers her still in the tower, she doesn't know, but she shakes it from her mind, instead smiling as she replays Lexa's soft declaration from last night over and over, three words that had hit her like kryptonite.

"I love you too."  She says, holding her breath for any movement as her hand moves to trace each circle down Lexa's spine.  After a minute passes and she believes Lexa must still be asleep, more words bubble up in her throat.  If she doesn't say them now, she never will:

"I wish we didn't owe anything to our people anymore. I'd leave it all behind if we could, and make a home somewhere just for us." A sob creeps up before she can catch it, as she takes a few deep breaths to calm herself.

She instantly knows it's not a fair thing to say, knowing Lexa's position was never her choice. More importantly the cascade of consequences that would come if anyone else were leading the 12 clans. But as Clarke laid there tracing every curve, scar, and freckle in front of her, she wanted to be done putting everyone else's needs ahead, especially if they kept rejecting the peace she was sacrificing everything to achieve.
