Indra, Octavia, Lincoln, and Luna are all in the commander's tent waiting for the Skaikru leaders. Lincoln has been recovering well, though still not back to full strength, and Octavia only leaves his side to train with Indra. Luna sits silently at the small table, in the same reserved state's she been in since she returned, while the rest hover around the war table that has been set up, with maps sprawled out across it.
Lexa has been pacing for 10-15 minutes, nervous, internally going back and forth about what she plans to say.
Octavia's eyes follow the commander back and forth, and after another minute she breaks the silence, knowing what Lexa is contemplating, "She deserves to know, Commander. You can't lie to her about her daughter."
"I know that." Lexa spits back. It doesn't make it any easier though, not that she was under any assumption Abby was going to support a relationship between her and Clarke, to start off like this certainly was not going to help in getting any approval. But she tries to change the subject.
"We will need radios, how many does Skaikru have?" Lexa asks.
Octavia shrugs, "Not sure, maybe a half-dozen, but it depends how many Pike insists on taking with him."
The pause is heavy, both girls meet each other's eyes, and Lexa presses her lips together when Octavia speaks timidly, "Are you sure you don't want them joining the search? Don't we want as many people as we can get?"
Lexa hears what isn't being said.
Bellamy will demand he go looking for Clarke.
The commander keeps her face hardened, "They made their choice." She says, approaching the war table, "He chose to leave when he knew Clarke would be staying, why should this change anything?"
"He still cares about her." Says Octavia, cautiously. "He..." Lexa's eyes shoot up at the girl, warning her against finishing that sentence. Octavia stops herself and redirects, "You know he will do anything to find her, and you know we could use the guns against Ontari."
Lexa's hands clench into fists as she leans on the table looking over the maps, "I don't need Skaikru weapons to kill her."
She tastes bile in her throat just thinking about Bellamy, thinking about how many times he asked where Clarke was, how many times she taunted him that she was safe.
The thought of his smug face mocking her for not being able to protect Clarke makes her blood boil.
She doesn't move her head as she looks up again to lock onto Octavia's eyes, "Keep your brother away from me if he wants to keep his tongue. I mean it."
The commander isn't sure if she's impressed or annoyed that Octavia never backs down from her. Never seems afraid of her. One thing that is apparent is she will make one hell of a warrior someday.
"Commander," Octavia asserts, "You don't have to always do everything yourself. Let them help you. You don't have to be a martyr."
Lexa's eyes glaze over for a moment, as she draws air into her nostrils, counting her heartbeats. It's a dangerous slope when she start thinking about Clarke for too long - if she's hurt, if she's scared, if she still even wants a life with Lexa after all of this. Her heart pounds against her ribcage imagining Ontari laying so much as a finger on Clarke, the total hours she's had Clarke captive rattling her the more time passes.
