Clarke was grateful for a dreamless sleep. Her body still didn't fully relax though, as she awoke still curled at the edge of the mattress, but she finally rolled out of bed late into the morning with tepid buoyancy.
It seemed best to preoccupy herself, the progress and plans for Arkadia's settlement was an easy effort to dive into. She looked forward to spending time with Octavia, her mother, and Raven once she arrived with Indra. There were still questions circling her mind, only growing louder, but she wasn't sure how ready she was for the answers.
Her growling stomach eventually pushes her out of bed to get dressed, and as she exits into the hallway she catches herself just before tripping over something on the ground.
She looks down and sees Lexa, asleep sitting up against the wall next to the door, her head dropped down onto her own shoulder in a way that her neck is definitely going to hurt today. She's still in the same clothes as yesterday, the same clothes from being out in the woods. Clarke doubts she ever even went back to her own room.
Watching Lexa sleep was one of Clarke's favorite things. She felt guilty all over again for not having asked her to stay last night, but she feared the answers to some of her questions, almost as much as she feared what questions Lexa might have for her.
She nudges Lexa's boot with her foot, which startles her awake and she grabs for her dagger before realizing Clarke is the one standing above her.
"Thought you were a light sleeper? I could have been an assassin." Clarke smirks down at the commander.
Lexa rubs her eyes, and then rolls her neck around before getting to her feet, looking like she in fact had barely slept at all.
"An assassin isn't getting anywhere close, there's guards at the elevator on every floor and in every room with a window on this floor." Lexa says groggily, still rubbing the sleep from her eyes.
"Every window?" Clarke says raising her eyebrows, "How many is that?"
"As many as it takes." Lexa utters back before yawning, "Not taking anymore chances."
Though she found the sentiment adorable, it was also unnecessary. Clarke didn't want a dozen or so extra guards kept up all night just to guard windows.
"Lexa you don't have to do that."
"Watch me."
Clarke huffed, "It's too much, Lex. I'll be fine."
"Clarke I'd do anything." Lexa insists.
"Except look for me yourself apparently."
Clarke wanted to take it back as soon as the words left her lips but bitterness filled her mouth instead. Those green eyes lit up in shock, then confusion.
"What?" Lexa asked, taking a step back.
Clarke's chest tightens, she wasn't ready for this first thing in the morning.
