The SWAT call that made us leave the bakery earlier than we...well, I, wanted, was one in the long line of calls we had that day. Now, we were in the middle of our 4th call, where Luke was talking with the scared teenager holding a knife to his boyfriend. I sent a message to Lily telling her that I won't be able to went and get her while keeping an eye on the situation in front of us.
We were dealing with a teenage couple in the girl's home. The reason we were here – the girlfriend found out she wasn't the only "love" of the boy and she wasn't very happy about it. The worse part – he was cheating on her with her step-sister, that was also in the house at the moment. The boy was visiting the other girl, thinking that his girlfriend was still at school, but she came home earlier than expected and caught them. The step-sister was knocked out cold on her bedroom's floor thanks to a well-placed punch from the girl, while the boyfriend was now staying naked near the bed with a knife staying very close to his dick. The girlfriend was contemplating whether or not to cut it off and Luke was doing his best to make her see that it wasn't worth it.
At one moment the step-sister woke up and tried to save the boy which was the dumbest decision she could made. Because of her, the boy ended with a deep cut on his stomach, lucky bastard, while the two girls were fighting for the knife. We managed to get into the room quickly and separate them so there weren't any more victims. And all the drama finally finished around 8 o'clock in the evening.
I was finishing my reports at the police station, when my phone rang. I looked at the unknown number that was written on the screen and took the call.
"Hall."
"I'm sorry to bother you, officer Hall, but we have some news for you." The tone of the voice on the other side of the line made me stop my work and concentrate on him. Something wasn't right.
"What's up?"
"I'm detective Joseph Conway and right now I'm at the "Cupcake's Dream" bakery. I need for you to come here, so we can discuss the damages..."
"Damages?"
"Well, there isn't much, honestly. It seems that there was a break in, because the front door was forced and there are some misplaced items, but we need you to come and see if something is missing."
"What about Lily?"
"Who?"
"Emily Wilson, the owner. Didn't she already told you what was missing or whatever? She was supposed to close the shop two hours ago and then go home to my house. Didn't you check with her first?"
"Um, no. We haven't talked with her. When we came here one of the cops told us that you were connected with the bakery so I called you. Didn't know that the owner was another one. We'll go and check with her..."
"No need. She must be home by now. I'll go grab her and together we'll come and meet with you."
"Okay. That's fine with me." I ended the phone call and immediately called Lily, but she didn't answer. A ball in my stomach formatted, but I tried to dismiss it. She was probably taking a shower or a nap. No need to worry. It's totally normal not to pick up a phone.
I was walking towards my car when I tried to call her again, but – no one answered. The whole ride to my house I was trying and trying, but nothing happened and that made me feel unease. When I finally arrived, that ball in my stomach became bigger, because all the lights were off. And that was absolutely unusual for Lily. She hated when she was alone in the house and always left the lights in the halls turn on until I came home.
