Chapter Five

As soon as she stepped out from behind the tree the sprinklers turned on, Ruby glancing over and sighing in relief as it was just Sarah.

The girls locked eyes and Ruby nodded before going over to her brother while Sarah went after security, she inspected to see if John B was hurt in any way and sighed in relief when he wasn't.

They were on a ticking clock- Ward was coming there tomorrow to take the gold somewhere else, now they had to find a new plan before Terrance turned them in.

The three of them went back to the hotel, defeat was evident as they walked, there's no way they could come up with the perfect plan.

But the next morning Ruby walked around with Cleo as the others formed a plan- she didn't want to be apart of it.

" what's got you so down?" Cleo questioned and Ruby shrugged, "I just don't feel.. whole.." Ruby said quietly, running her fingers over the fence as they walked.

It was true, the longer she was away from JJ the more the hole in her heart grew, she hadn't slept since that night- she couldn't sleep without him.

But she kept that to herself, Cleo probably didn't care to know about her love life that was actively failing.

So phase one of the plan was now in place, Ruby was squished between John B and Sarah while they waited.

She was honestly hoping for a win this time, she wanted to go home more than anything else right now.

John B and Ruby shared a look as they saw the truck, only she froze as she saw Rafe in the truck, she couldn't breathe.

She allowed Sarah to tug her along as Terrance and Cleo handled Ward and Rafe- but as soon as Ruby saw Rafe aim his gun at Sarah she shoved her out of the way.

The bullet was fired and suddenly John B was shoving Ruby into their truck- both Sarah and John B were cheering about the gold.

But Ruby took a shaky breath, touching her left shoulder and pulling her fingers back, seeing how they were covered in blood, barely even hearing her brothers voice as he asked if she was okay.
