Chapter Seventeen

Ruby was asleep when it happened, mentally and physically exhausted from all the events that had happened.

She didn't even register John B tapping on the wall as signal that the plan was starting- she just needed to sleep.

But that was her biggest mistake.. she didn't realize her brother was in danger until he screamed- she felt sick, pounding against the wall and screaming for help.

" John B!" She cried, desperately looking for a way out, she couldn't just listen to her brother die.

" someone help!!" She screamed, banging on the bars, hoping by some miracle they would bend and she could get out, " shit!" She yelled, frustrated tears streaming down her face as she desperately tugged at the bars.

Ruby watched as the other prisoners seemed to go into some type of frenzy- locking eyes with Luke who smirked, giving her more of reason to want to bash his face in.

She kicked at the bars, punched them, anything she could think of. But it was no use, her heart dropped as everything became quiet.

" no.. no no.. please no.." She mumbled to herself, laying her forehead against the wall, " JB.." She whispered, tears flowing down her face.

She sighed in relief as she heard him coughing, glaring at the man who left his cell just missing Shoupe.

" it's about damn time!" Ruby yelled, pacing around her cell, a shaky hand running through her hair.

The next day the were taken to the wardens office, Ruby immediately hugging John B as soon as she saw him, checking him over to see if was actually okay.

She watched as John B read over a file, a confused look forming as he smiled, she barely could register what was going on, all she knew was one moment they were in jail and the next they were being released.

She rubbed at her temples, all the stress was making her unable to focus, but she felt some relief seeing the Twinkie, holding her plushie closer.

But driving down the road and seeing how people only wanted John B freed stung, her gaze dropping to the floor, he always was the favorite..

Once they got to the chateau she didn't even really make herself known, letting John B have his spotlight as she wandered into her room.

Ruby looked at herself in her vanity mirror, she didn't even recognize the girl staring back at her anymore.

She looked over as JJ came into her room, immediately running over as he engulfed her into his arms.

" I love you.." she whispered as they laid on her bed, " I love you too.." he said, kissing her temple.

The two laid in silence for a moment, " Rue..?" He asked after awhile, " yea..?" She responded, " marry me.." he said, looking into her eyes.

She looked at him dumbfounded, a smile forming on her lips, " yes.." she said and he smiled, pulling a small ring box from his pocket.

He slid the ring onto her finger before connecting their lips in a sweet kiss.

Miracles do happen..
