__________

Year: 5904

"Breaking news. With great apprehension, the reporters are forced to announce that South Korea's birth rates are facing a massive decline, with a percentile of 0.12. On the other hand, the death rates have soared to the percentile of 73.9."

"Depressing data such as this is sadly being retold in almost all parts of the world. Even as we report this, major parts of our now-dying world suffer from ado mania. The future now seems to be coming too fast, and now, we fear that now we might know what this future will consist of, the end of the human race, and the end of this planet."

"Upcoming, we are going to watch a short interview taken by our team with the miserable citizens of South Korea-"

Clenching her jaw, Han Yumi sharply shook her wristband, letting the translucent image of robots announcing the depressing news fade. Such news now seemed to be what one living in the year 5914 would expect almost daily.

Yumi turned her head to face her front, where only seconds ago the floating image of programmed robots disclosing the declining health of the Earth had resided.

She snapped her eyes shut, letting her head fall back to rest on the backrest of her couch as a deep sigh escaped her lips, a sigh that contained only a small part of the immense frustration she felt.

The more silent her outer body was, the more noise her mind made. This time, the noise was mostly a mixture of worry, fright, anger, and misery.

This mixture of noise became louder and more frequent in her head as seconds, minutes, hours and days went by. At this rate, Yumi thought her constant state of mind was being so stressed that she was calm. Unnaturally calm.

The inner turmoil she was facing was promptly interrupted as she sensed someone watch-calling her. Opening her tired eyes, she jerked her watch to the right and sat up straighter as the translucent figure of her friend blinked at her.

"Yumi," Lee Hara's voice echoed around her empty living room, "Captain Kim is sending for you, come to our station quickly."

And just like that, she disappeared. Wow, Yumi thought wryly, it must be important if she just called and gave a short notice without chatting.

Yumi quickly jumped from her couch, swiftly pulled on her suit, and tried to pull the long, tangled mess of her hair into a high ponytail.

"Juju, I'm going out! Signal for my carriage and set the destination to South Korean Aerospace Institute." She commanded, watching her mechanical maid nod its head through the mirror.

"Done, Ma'am." It replied monotonously, "I will have your dinner ready by the time you get back,"

"Thanks. Lock the door!" Yumi said as she hurried towards the one-passenger automobile that was waiting for her. She quickly let the tiny camera scan her face to unlock its door. She jumped in as soon as the door clicked open.

"Set destination: South Korean Aerospace Institution. I request the passenger to kindly buckle up as we go." The monitor in front of her seat displayed the map with the pathway as the carriage began to move smoothly, "It has been reported that South Korea's birth rate has-"

"Kindly increase your speed to sixty kilometres per hour," Yumi intervened quickly, not wanting to listen to the news. As she felt the vehicle move faster, she rested back on her seat, "Please play 900s biggest K-Pop Hits as we go,"

Yumi tilted her head to face the window, feeling the music's melody dance in her ear as the wind slightly jostled her hair. As she gazed at the almost empty-looking streets, she thought about how the news report wasn't even needed to learn about how the planet Earth was nearing its end.

The few people who still had life in them had worry and apprehension written all over their faces. Yumi's eyes found panic and distress in every other pair of eyes she met. All of them seemed to contain the same question she pondered over in her alone time, what was going to happen in the end?

"We have reached your desired destination," The emotionless robotic voice broke through her hazy thoughts, "I hope you enjoyed your journey."

Startled, she quickly got off the vehicle with, "Yeah, thanks," and let the scanner scan her face to lock it back.

She turned to face the large glowing building that stood in front of her. The words South Korean Aerospace Institute glared back at her in blazing colours.

'Here goes,' She thought as she walked in after bowing to the standing guards. The moment she passed through the entrance into the shade, she felt relief for escaping the Sun's heated glare, despite being out for only a few moments.

As soon as she pushed the door open, she was met with about ten faces staring back at her.
