Yumi tossed over the cold floor again, trying to will sleep into her.
'Please, w-wake up! Please!'
Yumi tossed over again.
'D-didn't you sa-say you wa-wanted to be a do-doctor? Please, b-baby, wa-wake up!'
Yumi flipped to lie on her stomach, begging her brain to shut off those words. That scene she wasn't supposed to witness.
'W-why won't y-you wake up?!'
"Urgh!"
Yumi felt Hara toss next to her, "I was tempted to just delete that scene from my memories too,"
"Good to see you not being able to sleep too."
They heard Jimin's voice, "Come on... how could we sleep after that? Namjoon, please stop kicking me."
He flipped to face the ceiling, "That was horrible, wasn't it? That poor woman...,"
It was silent for some time, before Jimin uttered, "That guy, Jeongguk, said something about this not being the first time,"
"Of course, it's not. The older one also mentioned some feline epidemic..., deaths will be a common occurrence now, I guess," Hara said sadly.
"It's horrible!" Namjoon groaned, "To think that it would be a daily occurrence-"
He was interrupted by the door creaking open, making all four of them jolt up, "Are you guys planning on shutting up at all?"
Jeongguk slammed the door shut behind him in anger, "You guys are gonna be testifying tomorrow. One would think you guys would at least let me sleep. But go ahead and discuss you sneaking off, why don't you?"
"You knew," Yumi breathed.
"Obviously,"
"We're sorry about what happened," Namjoon said, lowering his eyes, "What happened to the mother?"
"How does that concern you?" he suddenly took on a defensive stance, "I'm not relaying any information,"
"We're not planning anything,"
"You know what you should be planning? Your pity speech for tomorrow. You could gain their sympathy enough to get a lighter punishment; like getting launched into space without a ship. Better than getting fed to the sick lions, right?"
Yumi couldn't help but notice how his fingers shook slightly as he reached for the door, letting it open by itself. Whether it was because of sadness or anger, she did not know.
The slamming of the door echoed through the room, slightly diminishing their hope for anything.
Once again, she lay on the cold floor, too deep in thought to sleep.
'How did this even happen?' she asked herself, 'How did this even start? How do felines go through this?'
"Isn't it weird?"
She blinked, she hadn't meant to say that out loud. Nevertheless, she continued.
"How only felines go through this, but the others are safe,"
"If you think about it... It's strange," Jimin agreed.
"What's different about felines? Why are only they getting affected?"
"Suppose their body metabolism and immunity are different, or their lifestyle causes it," Hara murmured.
"Probably, " an irritated voice came out behind the door, "You should go to sleep,"
