"Get the humans. Drag them to our cave. You can leave me here,"
Yumi, still hanging onto the octopus's massive arm, did not hear the children's response. She needn't have. Her still bandaged fingers slipped off her arm with one sharp movement by the beast, and she was slammed into the wall and dropped by the children's feet.
"Hmm..." Yumi groaned in pain, her energy at rock bottom after her previous endeavours. Her back felt like someone had filled it with lava inside and her arms burned from the strain. She felt hands grab her, their slimy texture sending goosebumps over her skin. She shivered, looking over tiredly anyway.
"Hey, kid..." she muttered, getting an unpleasantly close-up look at the kid octopus. Pat's eyes widened, the pores on the inside of his palm tickling her arm uncomfortably.
"Tag, you're it?" he looked uncertain of her now. "Can we strangle you now?"
Yumi looked at them blearily. Her hearing was fuzzy. She could hear her other teammates struggling. Taehyung was still attempting to tackle the mother, sprinting up at her and ending up smacked away at the last minute. Jeongguk was chucked away in the other children's direction, face completely stained black.
"Hey, kids..." Yumi murmured, "I'm sorry for tricking you like this, okay?"
She meant it. A bit. These kids looked so innocent, untouched by any sort of pain. They didn't know, they didn't know anything about the state of misery their planet was living in. Yumi was reminded of children of her own species, not understanding why their parents left them so early or why Earth wasn't a planet to live on anymore.
"You tricked us?" Sal asked, looking despaired.
Yumi grits her teeth, wondering how to respond to that. Hara would've known.
There was a crash, and soon Namjoon was trying to drag Jeongguk away from the octopus kids. Jeongguk trashed around, gagging over a mouthful of ink.
"CHILDREN!" Mother octopus bellowed, "Quickly get your prey underwater!"
Yumi was already retraining against Pat and Sal as they began to drag her near the stern. For children, they were quite strong, "Look! Hey...hey kiddos. Let me explain why I...why I came here in the first place, yeah?" her convincing voice failed her, she sounded strained.
Taehyung was lying motionless on the floor now, his form turning back into a human. Mother octopus, supporting herself heavily with four of her arms now, flicked him off so he was thrown out of the way to her children. But her aim was slightly off, and he skidded over to lie lifelessly at the foot of the control cabin.
"Tae hyung...?" Jeongguk asked blindly, raising his arms to feel the air. One of the kids made to grab him, and Namjoon pulled at him, narrowly escaping their hands.
"I've got him!" a muffled voice spoke. Yumi widened her eyes as Jimin staggered off the stairs. She hadn't even realised the ship was moving now.
She took a deep breath, finally having the energy to rest her feet on the floor. "Pat...Sal, we wanted your help, you see,"
"We can't help you," they said firmly.
Yumi tried another approach, "Have...have you lived happily in your home until now?"
"We won't answer your question."
"We haven't." Yumi wished she had more time to explain the situation to their children, "We weren't happy even before we showed up here,"
"You...you are human." Pat faltered, "You bring sadness everywhere,"
That hurt. "I'm sorry I made you sad. I didn't mean to, really! We thought you could make us happy again, see. So, we wanted to meet you."
