Chapter 20

Jeongguk took a brave step towards the Aquas that were surrounding him. Glass shattered from overhead, and the human he left at the wheel came falling right off the cabin with his attacker on top of him.

He crashed on the ground with a sickening thud, his scream being reduced to mere gasps of pain as the sea hybrid leapt off him, looking unscathed.

"Look at these little things!" The creature cooed as the human clutched his knee. "These are the wimps you decided to run off with, rabbit?"

Jeongguk was too busy gaping at the human in horror to hear the first time. A familiar yell came from behind him and he whirled around.

The other humans had been captured too, it seemed. A group of Aquas dragged them across the cracked floor of the deck as they sported bruises and cuts. "Found them," the one leading them said gleefully.

"Look whom I found in the bathroom!" another voice gloated and Jeongguk whipped around again to find Taehyung being restrained by two other Aquas. His mouth was covered and he looked quite green, cheek sporting a bad gash as he struggled violently, "Wouldn't shut up. Had to close his jaws physically,"

He felt like vomiting as the ship swayed, unstable, as more Aquas slithered up the deck, those who were spouting actual fishtails from the waist down. The floor jerked, and he knew there were more down there.

One came sprinting at him, yelling profanities, and Jeongguk jumped over them, hair jostling with the air. Two more came, and he willed himself into his rabbit form, sprinting underneath his legs. His vision became clearer and he felt lighter, like someone had filled him with helium. He could allow himself the three-sixty-degree vision that his human form wouldn't let him.

The voice boomed, "CATCH HIM!" louder than it probably was, and he was promptly chased across the deck by the Aquas. His ears rang with their erratic footsteps. One determined merman was trying his best to crawl across the floor to reach him.

Perhaps he had distracted them enough to let the others escape.

Jeongguk soon touched the stern of the ship. He took one glance down to the sea and hissed, there were more Aquas down, steadily creeping upwards. He dodged as one managed to reach, stretching out his hand to try and grab him.

He sprang into the air, landing on its face and doubling his jump height, springing higher just as the crowd following him reached him. Landing cleanly on the leader's head, he leapt off him with the higher horizontal just as the crowd skidded to a halt, some slipping off the deck. Swiftly taking his human form, he appeared behind them and pushed the remaining off the ship. They fell, dragging the newcomers with them.

Jeongguk peeked down at the sea carefully. He gulped, eyebrows knotted as creatures surrounded the foot of the ship. The shadow of what seemed to be a shark smashed its nose into the ship, with more following it unanimously, obviously trying to harm their vehicle.

He ran into the control cabin, immediately starting the motor he managed to fix only this morning. The ship sped on, leaving the Aquas behind and Jeongguk glanced downward to see what was happening with the others in the ship.

Chaos had reigned.

His eyes widened once he saw the scene that was taking place down there. Grabbing the remote for the ship's motor, he dashed back down to the deck.

The three remaining humans fought like demons, with hasty moves and a nothing-to-lose attitude. They yelled as they collectively jumped on a couple of incoming Aquas, one landing on its back, one weighing on its feet, one attempting to grab its washed-out face.
