akashi keiji had been diagnosed with epilepsy when he was ten years old. after a seizure he had been taken to the hospital and was soon diagnosed with the condition. not too long after he was prescribed medication to minimize the seizures. they didn't stop them completely but they helped prevent some. he had much less seizures so they were worth it in his mind. plus, now that he was older he could refill his prescription by himself. usually he was pretty on top of it. he would get a refill a few days before he ran out. but this time it had completely slipped his mind. a training camp was coming up and he had to worry about getting everything in order.

the morning of the training camp he woke up and got ready as normal. he walked out to the kitchen where the medicine was kept, he opened the bottle and poured into his hand. he knew he was low but he didn't know he had one left. he watched one single pill fall into his hand. "shit-" he cursed as he looked down at the pill. he didn't have anything else. no back ups. nothing. he was screwed. he couldn't even say no to the training camp either, he had already committed. now he had to go without any medication, meaning now there was a higher risk of him having a seizure.

all he could do was hope for the best. the bus ride there was not a problem since he had taken his medicine. it was the next day he would have to worry about. in fact, nothing happened until the third day. he had woken up fine and he went to the practice games. it wasn't until after dinner did it all start. it started out small too, just some small tingles in his arms and legs. honestly, he thought his legs had fallen asleep. but that paired with the staring spells, that's when he knew something was up. he had a few times during dinner where he just stared off, not eating, barely blinking. but akaashi didn't want to get himself scared so he assured himself he was fine. after all, it could just be a symptom, not an actual seizure.

kuroo and bokuto had wanted to practice, and of course bokuto assumed akaashi would also be tagging along. "hey! tsuki-dude! come practice with us!" bokuto shouted, practically jumping up and down to get the middle blockers attention. usually akaashi would say something to bokuto along the lines of, 'calm down, bokuto-san' or, 'you're going to scare him off'. but this time akaashi was too sidetracked. he didn't look sidetracked but his mind wasn't all there. instead kuroo stepped in. "hey, he won't play if you act like that. calm down." kuroo muttered, his hand placed on his hip while he looked at the ace.

eventually, they convinced tsukishima to come play with them. they walked to the gym together and akaashi could feel his hands start to twitch, just slight but consistent twitches. "only for a little bit, bokuto-san." akaashi finally spoke up as they changed their shoes. "fine, fine. only for a little bit." bokuto responded but they all know the captain would complain when they decided to stop practicing.

during practice akaashi could tell something was really wrong. "bokuto-san, i'm gonna go take a water break." he spoke up, whispering it to his friend. he walked off and grabbed his water. he started to take a sip before he felt his knees start to buckle. "shit-" he muttered as his sight started to go dark. before he knew it, he was on the hard gym floor. he started to seize and it immediately caught the other three boys attentions. "oh my god! akaashi!" bokuto shouted, running to his friends side. bokuto wasn't stupid, he knew his friend had something going on but he didn't know akaashi had epilepsy. "bokuto! back away from him!" tsukishima said quickly, kneeling near the setter. "start a timer." tsukishima muttered, grabbing a jacket and putting it under akaashis head to prevent any head injuries. "fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck!" bokuto repeated as he started the timer on his phone before looking back at his friend.

kuroo had run out, running to the coaches room. he didn't bother knocking, he just burst in. ukai and takeda were the only ones away. "i- fuck! it's akaashi- i think he's having a seizure-" the captain said through ragged breaths. that caught both adults attention. takeda got up quickly while ukai pulled his phone out. "take us to him!" takeda said quickly. both older males followed the captain to the gym where akaashi was coming to the end of his seizure. ukai was on the phone, getting them an ambulance.  the adults kneeled down near the setter, not knowing what to do.

as akaashi slowly started to come out of the seizure he didn't know what was going on. coming out of a seizure was scary and overwhelming. he immediately started to tear up, letting out a quiet whimper. "bokuto.." he whined quietly, the tears falling down his cheeks. bokuto was the most familiar face there and the most comforting person there. it was his best friend although he had been pining over him for years. he would do anything for bokuto.

bokuto moved forward as the setter attempted to sit up. "slow, slow." the ace mumbled, wrapping his arms around akaashi. he leaned down and just held akaashi as the setter sobbed into his shoulder. he held onto bokutos shirt as if he let go it would all disappear. "bokuto.." he cried quietly, his sobs becoming more shaky. bokuto slowly pulled akaashi into his lap, rubbing his back gently. "shh..i'm right here, keiji..i'm right here.." bokuto whispered to him, rocking back and forth to comfort his friend.

when the ambulance came, akaashi refused to go without bokuto. takeda and bokuto rode in the ambulance with akaashi, bokuto holding his hand the entire way. he wouldn't let akaashi be scared.
