3rd pov

The sound of volleyballs smacking the floor and shoes squeaking against the wood. Karasuno and Aoba Johsai going head to head against each other. Ukai called for a timeout, his eyes landing on his setter– Kageyama was exhausted. He was stuck in his head going against his former upperclassman, he couldn't get out of his own head to make good strategic plays. Ukai made the choice to switch Suga into the game. He would change the flow and he wouldn't be hung up on Oikawa.

The whistle blew and instead of Kageyama returning to the court, Sugawara stepped onto the court. His eyes scanned the court, taking in each of the players on the opposing team. He tried to keep a level head but the nerves were slightly getting to him. He bit the inside of his cheek, eyes stuck on Oikawa on the serving line. Asahi's hand on his back snapped him out of his trance. "You're not alone on the court. Everyone here has got your back, okay?" He spoke,  his voice level and confident as he looked at the shorter setter.

The game started, Seijoh's players egging Oikawa on as he got ready for his serve. His eyes were sharp as he took in Karasunos line up, picking what he thought would be the weakest link. He aimed right for the third year setter, his powerful serve coming straight for the boy. Sugawara got right behind the ball and managed to get it into the air. Seijoh's captain scowled as he saw the air in the ball, giving Karasuno a chance to score on them. "Aim for the setter," he muttered under his breath to his ace. It was a universal message to the entire team from their captain.

Spike after spike they aimed for Suga to receive it. Most of the time Nishinoya or Daichi were able to swoop in and save the ball. But at set point for Seijoh, Kyoutani spiked the ball– an impressive crosshot right at the third year Setter. Sugawara dove to dig it up, his hand shooting out to get under the ball. He saved it– barely. He dug it up, sending it flying into the air. Daichi got under it, bumping it to Nishinoya to set from the back line for Asahi to spike right into Seijoh's side, evening out the score. Suga didn't get up though. When he had dove to get the ball he didn't use the correct form– he hadn't had time to. As he tried to push himself off the ground he stumbled, his arm gave out under his weight. A pained noise left him as he looked down at his arm, it seemed fine but he could feel the pulsing pain in it. The noise that left his lips somehow caught the attention of the captain. "Suga?" his voice rang out from behind him before a pair of strong hands came to help him up. "Are you okay?" he asked his boyfriend, his eyebrows furrowing as he took in the boy's expression. "Yeah– yeah– just..hit the ground wrong.." the setter mumbled under his breath as he went to shake out his wrist. A shooting pain shot through his entire arm when he moved his wrist, the pained expression evident on his face as yet another noise tumbled from his lips.

Daichi's expression only got more worried at his boyfriend's reaction. He fought the urge to pull him off to the side but as he opened his mouth to say something, the whistle blew again. The boys got into position, Asahi getting ready to serve at the line. The ball went up after Watari dug the serve up, it came flying back over the net to Karasuno— Suga jumped to serve it but as the ball made contact with his fingers the pain shot through his arm again. "Fuck–" the third year cursed as the ball fell onto the floor and clutched his arm to his chest.

The team didn't dwell on the lost point, Daichi was already at Suga's side again, prying his arm away from his chest. At this point faint bruising started to appear on his wrist and a significant swelling. "Koshi.." his voice carried his concern as he lightly pressed on the other male's wrist causing him to grimace in pain. "Aye– gentle!" the setter whined, pulling his arm away. "I knew you were hurt– why wouldn't you say anything?!" the captain scolded as Ukai and Takeda approached, their eyes landing on the swollen third year's wrist. "That's definitely a sprain– if not a break." ukai muttered, shaking his head disapprovingly at the setter. "You should know better, Sugawara." he added, disappointment heavy in his tone. Thankfully it was just a practice game so in the end, the lost point did not matter. On the bus ride home though the air was tense between the captain and his vice captain. An ice pack was held against the injured wrist all the way back to Karasuno and as soon as they got back, Daichi was dragging his boyfriend to the nearest clinic.

"Are you okay?"

"How does it feel?"

"Does it hurt?"

"Do you need anything?"

Were the things repeated over and over again as the pair went to the clinic. There he was given x-rays and it was confirmed that he broke his Ulna. He left the clinic with a bright blue cast..unfortunately that was the only color they had for him. Daichi took the boy home, convinced that Suga NEEDED to stay with him so he could monitor the injury. So when they got to Daichi's house and got settled, Suga laid in his boyfriends bed and watched cheesy movies with his boyfriend while elevating his injured wrist.
