My Pov
I finally managed to make it to Pewter City. Not long before making it through the forest, Free evolved into a Butterfree. I took out my Pokédex and looked up Butterfree's data.
"Butterfree, the Butterfly Pokémon and the evolved form of Metapod. Its wings, covered with poisonous powders, repel water. This allows it to fly in the rain." the Pokédex said. I made it to the Pokémon Center to get my Pokémon healed. After that and restocking on essentials, I started to think about my strategy. Zippy was an obvious 'no' as I knew he'd never be as strong as Ash's Pikachu. Lovie was Normal so most of her attacks won't do that much damage. I had Free, but one hit from a Rock-type move and he was done for. My best chance was to use Primo, but I would need to use at least two Pokémon.
"Ugh... If only this was like Let's Go, Eevee! Lovie would be able to learn Double Kick." I groaned. I ultimately decided to use Free. I would just have try and hit Brock's Pokémon with Stun Spore and raise Free's defense with Harden. I sighed and headed toward the Gym. I stood in front of the large building that was constructed of rocks. Well, here we go. I pushed open the doors and headed inside. It was dark for a brief minute before the area was flooded with light. I shielded my eyes for a minute until they adjusted. I looked and saw the Gym battle ground.
"I take it you're a challenger?" a voice asked. I looked forward and saw Brock. "Well?" I snapped out of my daze.
"Yes. I'm Winnie Evos from Pallet Town and I've come to challenge you for a Boulder Badge." I said.
"I, Brock of the Pewter Gym, accept your challenge. We will use two PokéBalls each." Brock said.
"Understood." I said. Brock took out his first PokéBall which I knew to be Geodude.
"Go, Geodude." Brock said, throwing the ball. It opened, releasing a white light that faded into Geodude. I pointed my Pokédex at Geodude.
"Geodude, the Rock Pokémon. Found in fields and mountains. Mistaking them for boulders, people often step or trip on them." the Pokédex said. I thought about whether to use Free or Primo first, but decided to use Free.
"Go, Free!" I said, throwing his PokéBall. It opened and my Butterfree appeared.
"Not very smart to use a Bug-type against a Rock-type, now is it?" Brock asked, not even hiding his cockiness. Oh, you just wait.
"A little too early to judge now, isn't it?" I asked.
"I doubt it. Geodude, Tackle it!" Brock commanded. Geodude flung itself at Free.
"Free, use Harden to lessen the blow!" I said. Free briefly glowed pale blue and when Geodude hit him, it was pushed back and I could tell the attack hadn't done much. "Quick, Free! Use Stun Spore to immobilize Geodude."
"Free!" Free exclaimed as he flapped his wings, releasing an orange powder. The powder covered Geodude, causing it to stiffen and shiver.
"Geodude, no!" Brock exclaimed.
"Now, Confusion!" I said. Free's eyes glowed bright red. A red light outlined Geodude as it was slowly lifted off the ground. "Send it high up and then slam it down!" Free, through the use of Confusion, lifted Geodude high into the air and then slammed it back to the ground. A cloud of dust formed after Geodude hit the ground and when it settled, Geodude was knocked out. Brock recalled Geodude.
"Rest up." he said. He then look to me. " I must admit, you obviously trained you're Pokémon well if you were able to win despite the type disadvantage."
"I knew you were a Rock-type user, so I had to train the Pokémon I had carefully so I would have a chance at beating you." I said.
"Let's see how you do against this one. Go, Onix!" Brock said, throwing his last PokéBall. There in front of me, appeared the large snake-like rock Pokémon. I pointed my Pokédex at Onix.
"Onix, Rock Snake Pokémon. It burrows at high speed in search of food. The tunnels it leaves are used as homes by Diglett." the Pokédex said. I was in trouble.
"Onix, Tackle!" Brock commanded. Onix, despite being so bulky, moved fast and rammed into Free.
"Free!" I exclaimed.
"Bind it, now!" Brock said. Onix then wrapped its tail around Free and started to squeeze.
"Freeee!" Free cried.
"Free, try to hit it with Confusion!" I said, desperately hoping to get a hit on Onix. Free was struggling just to try and break loose. He couldn't hear me. That's when Onix let go of Free and he fell to the ground. I ran and scooped him up.
"You did so good, Free. Rest up." I said, returning him to his PokéBall. I took out Primo's PokéBall. "Go, Primo!" The ball opened and revealed my Mankey.
"Onix, Bind!" Brock commanded. Onix swung its tail toward Primo to grab him.
"Primo, jump on to Onix's tail!" I said. Primo jumped on to Onix's tail and started traveling up its body. "Use Scratch." Primo started scratching Onix as he climbed. Onix, being so big, couldn't keep track of where Primo went.
"Onix, try and shake it off." Brock said. Onix tried moving around, but Primo held on.
"Now, Low Kick!" I shouted. Primo jumped up above Onix's head. His leg glowed white and he kicked Onix. Onix then tumbled over, causing a large cloud of dust to form. When the dust cleared, Onix was revealed to have been knocked out. I did it. I won. "Yes!" I ran and picked up Primo. "You did it, Primo! You won!"
"Mankey! Mankey!" Primo chirped. Brock returned Onix.
"You did great Onix." he said. Brock then walked over to me. "Well, you definitely have a promising career as a Trainer. You were not only able to beat me with a Pokémon that was at a serious type disadvantage, but you also used my Pokémon's size against it. As proof against your victory against the Pewter Gym, I present to you this Boulder Badge." He held out his hand and in it was a Boulder Badge. I took it and just marveled at it.
"Thank you." I said. I shook Brock's hand and hurried to get Free healed. After leaving the Pokémon Center, I took out my map and looked at it. Cerulean City was the next Gym, but I had to go through Mt. Moon to get there. Well, I was going to be able to find a Paras there. With Zippy, I'd have no problem with the Cerulean Gym. I ultimately decided to send Free to Professor Oak. I noticed it was getting dark outside, so I decided to stay at the Pokémon Center for the night. I let Primo, Lovie and Zippy out of their PokéBalls. "Lovie, Zippy, Look!" I held up the Boulder Badge.
"Vui?" Lovie said.
"Pika?" Zippy said. They both looked at the Boulder Badge.
"This is our first Badge. Free and Primo both worked hard and won it. This is only the first of the eight we need. We're going to be doing some traveling tomorrow, so let's get a good night's rest and have a good breakfast in the morning." I said. All my Pokémon sounded off in agreement. I climbed into a bed and my Pokémon all curled up in the bed with me. I took one last look at my new Boulder Badge. I thought long and hard about my predicament. I was in the Pokémon anime now and had no idea if I'd ever be able to go back to the real world. Did I want to? Well, I guess I'll have my answer when I finish my journey through Kanto.
