My Pov
After about another hour, Lapi arrived on the shores of Cinnabar Island.
"Thank you, Lapi." I said, stroking her face. She cooed as I returned her to her PokéBall. Lovie jumped onto my shoulder as Lapi went into the ball. I then started walking around and noticed how crowded it was. I remember Blaine saying how because Cinnabar Island became such a tourist attraction with the hot springs, that Trainers stopped coming here. I wondered if there was a way I could meet Blaine.
"Welcome to Cinnabar Island, young lady." I turned and saw a man with dark blonde hair and sunglasses. Wait... this was Blaine! However, my attention was diverted to the Charmander that was by his side.
"Is this Charmander yours?" I asked. Lovie got close to Charmander, but it backed a little and hid behind Blaine. The man bent down and stroked the Charmander's head.
"Yes and no. This Charmander was found by the Cinnabar Gym Leader Blaine when it was injured and alone, so he decided to take care of it until its strong enough to be relocated." the man said.
"Aren't you Blaine, the Cinnabar Gym Leader?" I asked. He panicked a little and jolted up, which caused his wig to shift.
"Not sure what you mean, miss." the man said. I decided to lower my voice, in case he didn't want people to know.
"I'm a Pokémon Trainer. I was hoping for the chance to earn a Volcano Badge. You have a Gym hidden in the volcano, right?" He seemed to be surprised that I knew about his hidden gym. That's when the cheerful façade seemed to drop.
"Very well. Meet in the Gym in an hour. Give you time to decide your strategy. Come to the Riddle Inn hot spring. If you know of the Gym, then you know the way in." Blaine said, before walking off with Charmander tailing behind him. What a cute little Charmander. I went to the Pokémon Center, then the shop and then finally went to the shore to think. I let everyone out.
"Okay, everyone. We'll be taking on a Fire-type Gym inside of a volcano." I said. My Pokémon all looked at each other. I looked at each of them, thinking of who to use. Lapi was an obvious yes. Dot was an obvious no. Zippy was a balanced opinion, but if Blaine used Rhydon, I was going to need another advantage. I decided then what I should do. I went to the Pokémon Center, did what I needed to and headed to the Riddle Inn. I walked to the back, where the hot springs were and looked to the Gyarados fountain head. "Lovie, jump."
"Vui!" Lovie said, running and then jumping up to the statue. With her weight, the fountain head lowered. The caused one of the rock to move, revealing a secret passage. Lovie jumped back into my arms and I headed down the path. The deeper down we went, the hotter it got. How did Blaine manage to deal with the heat? I finally came to the doors at the end. I looked at Lovie one last time before pushing the doors open. I was greeted with the sight of a battle arena suspended above the lava. Maybe the fact the field was still intact, Ash hadn't arrived yet.
"Welcome to the hidden Gym of Cinnabar Island." a gruff voice said. I looked forward and saw Blaine. Next to him was Charmander. Little one must want to watch the battle. Blaine then removed his glasses and wig, revealing his face. "I'm not sure how you knew about this Gym, but since you've proven that your clever and observant, I'll accept your challenge. We'll battle 3-on-3."
"That's fine by me." I said. Blaine took out a PokéBall.
"Go, Ninetales!" he said, throwing the ball. Appearing from it was the elegant kitsune, Ninetales. I pointed my Pokédex at it.
"Ninetales, the Fox Pokémon and the evolved form of Vulpix. Very smart and very vengeful. Grabbing one of its many tails could result in a 1000-year curse." the Pokédex said. The only move I'd seen his Ninetales use is Fire Spin, so I needed to be careful.
