My Pov

I finally made it back to Pallet Town. I stopped by Professor Oak's and switched my Pokémon around before heading to Viridian City. I decided to take Primo back and give Tad, Lapi and Zippy a break. I decided to let Sparks and Tide exercise took them with me. I decided to go to the Viridian Forest and train before taking on the Gym. It was run by Team Rocket, so I knew Giovanni would be there. He'd be steamed to me again, so I needed to be careful. I pedaled through the forest, remembering my first time coming through here. This is where I caught Zippy, where I saw Ho-Oh and where I got my Rainbow Wing.

"We've been through a lot, haven't we, Lovie?" I asked my Eevee.

"Vui!" she chirped. I was nearing the end when a vine suddenly shot from the bushes. I leaned to far and my bike toppled over.

"Ow!" I yelped.

"Vui..." Lovie whimpered. I checked her over and didn't see any injury. I quickly took out Sparks' ball and threw it.

"Sparks, Pin Missile toward the bushes." I said.

"Jolt!" Sparks cried, releasing a barrage of needles into the bushes. The vine retracted as the source jumped out. It was a Bulbasaur! This was my chance to catch the last Kanto starter. Bulbasaur used Vine Whip again. "Jump and Quick Attack!" Sparks jumped out of the way and the rammed into Bulbasaur, knocking it into a tree. I took a Great Ball out of my bag.

"Go!" I said, throwing the ball at Bulbasaur. It hit, opening and sucking Bulbasaur inside. The ball wiggled three times before the light went out with a chime. "Yes!" I picked up the ball just as it disappeared in a flash to Professor Oak's lab. Now I have all three Kanto starter Pokémon. Well, technically five. I picked up my bike and was about to return Sparks when-

"Stop!" a small voice yelled. I tensed up for a minute before turning around and seeing a small girl. What was a little kid doing out here?! She was wearing a little pink dress that looked dirty and tattered. Next to her was an Oddish that looked injured. "You can't... take... Bulbasaur... You'll hurt her..."

"Hey, do you need help?" I asked. I was more concerned for her than what she said. She suddenly fell to the ground, shivering and twitching. "Hey!" I went to go and pick her up, but her Oddish suddenly attack.

"Oddish!" it cried. I jumped back, but Lovie Tackled it and knocked it out. I knelt down to the girl and felt her forehead. I thought so, she was burning up. I wouldn't be able to ride my bike while trying to keep her steady. I quickly folded up my bike and looked to Sparks. "Sparks, run ahead to the Pokémon Center and see if you can get Nurse Joy." Sparks nodded and quickly ran toward Viridian City. I lifted the little girl onto my back. "Lovie, can you carry her Oddish?"

"Vui!" Lovie said, bumping Oddish the air a little so she could get it on her back. I hurried out of the forest toward town. I made it out of the forest and as I came to where the Pokémon Center was, I saw Sparks coming out of the building with Nurse Joy and Chansey.

"Nurse Joy, help!" I called.

"Oh my! What happened?" Nurse Joy asked.

"I have no idea, but this little girl has a fever and her Oddish is badly hurt. Please! I don't know if you're facilities can treat humans too, but please do something." I said. Nurse Joy took the little girl from me and Chansey took the Oddish.

"We'll do what we can. Let's go Chansey!" Nurse Joy said.

"Chansey!" Chansey said. They took the two inside and I was left wondering what to do.

"Jolt!" Sparks said. I looked at my Jolteon and smiled. I knelt down and petted his face.

"Good job Sparks." I said, returning him to his PokéBall. Should I go to the Gym or wait to see if that little girl gets better?

"Vui...?" Lovie squeaked. I petted her head.

"Lovie, I think we should put off the battle for the Earth Badge for a little. I wanna make sure that little girl is okay." I said.

"Vui vui!" Lovie said, nodding her head. I decided to hang out at the Pokémon Center for a while. I could use this time to plan out my strategy. If Giovanni used Pokémon from the anime he'd have a Machamp and a Kingler, both of which weren't Ground-types. I had no way of knowing what kind of Pokémon to use. After an hour, Nurse Joy came out to the waiting room.

"Nurse Joy! Are the little girl and Oddish okay?" I asked.

"Yes. The child's fever has come down and Oddish is fully healed. However..." Nurse Joy said.

"However what?" I asked.

"I thought I had seen that little girl and I had. Her name is Abbie and her parents tragically passed a year ago, along with their pair of Vileplume." Nurse Joy said. She was an orphan?!

"Doesn't she have any other family?" I asked.

"No. Her parents were both the only child of each of their respective families and both there parents passed when Abbie was still very young. She only seven years old and has no one..." Nurse Joy said. Strange how there's a new character now. Could it be because I'm here?

"Nurse Joy, what will happen to her?" I asked.

"I'm not sure. She was placed in an orphanage, but from what I've been told they tried to take her Oddish from her. So she ran away." Nurse Joy said.

"Why would they take her Oddish? That Oddish is all she has left of her parents." I said.

"They felt that keeping the Oddish would keep her from letting go of her parents and allow her to find a new family. Frankly, it's despicable that they treated her that way." Nurse Joy said. I felt bad for her. I was orphaned and forced to live with a terrible aunt for five years.

"Can I see her?" I asked. Nurse Joy nodded and took me to the back. We came to the room Abbie and her Oddish were sleeping in. I noticed that Oddish had its leaves curled. However, when the door opened, Oddish immediately woke up and went on the defensive.

"Oddish!" it cried.

"Easy easy!" I exclaimed. Lovie jumped in front of me, growling at Oddish. "We were just making sure that Abbie was okay." Oddish looked confused, but kept the serious look on its face. Lovie hopped on the bed and started talking to Oddish. I wish I could speak Pokémon so I could understand them. Oddish's stern expression faded into a sad one as it went close to Abbie's head and curled up.

"Poor Oddish. The little one is probably very protective of Abbie." Nurse Joy said.

"Nurse Joy, could I stay here until Abbie wakes up?" I asked. She nodded and she and Chansey left the room. I simply sat in a chair and waited for Abbie to wake up. Before I realized it, I fell asleep with Lovie in my lap. I woke up to a poke on my arm. I opened my eyes and saw Abbie looking at me with Oddish in her arms. "Waah! Abbie!" I jolted up and shocked Lovie awake.

"Sorry..." Abbie muttered.

"It's fine. Just didn't expect you to be up already." I said. That's when I looked outside and saw the sun was setting. "Oh, didn't realize it was that late."

"Nurse Joy said you brought me here and stay with me?" Abbie asked.

"Of course. I wasn't going to just leave you and Oddish there." I said.

"Zinnia." Abbie said. I looked at her confused before she held up her Oddish. "Her name is Zinnia."

"Oh! That's really pretty!" I said. I then picked Lovie up. "This is my Eevee, Lovie."

"Vui vui!" Lovie greeted.

"Oddish!" Zinnia greeted. Abbie smiled a little.

"Well, I guess we'll have to challenge to Viridian Gym tomorrow Lovie." I said.

'Viridian Gym?" Abbie asked. I then told Abbie about everything I had seen and done at that point; the battles I've had, the Pokémon I've seen and caught and even showed her my Gym Badges. She seemed interested by everything I had to say. Nurse Joy came in and seemed very happy that Abbie was up. Abbie was able to move out of the hospital room and into a regular room. Abbie asked me to stay with her and I agreed.
