chapter 15

IT WAS '62 when Edylenne got the news of Eddie's brain cancer.

Eddie was in the hospital for a long time. The doctors didn't know how or why he had this. It was very unexpected. Eleanor definitely took it hard.

He was taken into the hospital in August. Edylenne visited him half of August and most of September. As much as she hated him after the day in the café, she's still visited. But still, she hated him. After the incident, she got much more frustrated with him.

She was in the hospital waiting room, with her leg bouncing rapidly. Her leg had been bouncing for a while. Suddenly, the doctor called her so she could see Eddie.

She walked into the room and her eyes fell to the boy in the hospital bed with cords going up his arms and sticking to his head. His face brightened, and she sat down in the chair next to the bed.

"Hey, Edylenne." He said, looking droopy.

"Hi." She said softly, examining him.

"So, how have you been?" Eddie asked, playing with one of the cords.

She scoffed and replied, "I should be asking you that."

"I'm doing good, thanks for asking." Eddie said sarcastically. He laughed, but she only raised an eyebrow. He looked frustrated at her.

"What's wrong with you? I've been trying to make you laugh for 5 months now, but you won't even smirk. What happened? Did I do something?" He asked, sitting up in the white and blue bed.

"Do you're parents know you're racist?" She asked coldly, finally looking him in the eyes. He sighed deeply and put his head down. "No." He mumbled quietly.

She let out a frustrated sigh and left the room. When she left the room, Elliot and Eleanor were outside, if they were going to enter.

"Edylenne. We were just looking for you." Eleanor said, looking nervous. Edylenne stopped walking and looked at Eleanor strangely.

"What's wrong?" Edylenne asked suspiciously.

"We just got more news from the doctor. His cancer is getting worse. We found out that.........after today he's not going to remember anything." Elliot answered, his eyes watery. Edylenne's face changed. Now she was worried. The last thing she did to Eddie was walk out of his hospital room, not wanting to talk to him anymore.

She stood there, thinking. Elliot and Eleanor were on the verge of tears. Eventually, Edylenne walked back into the room. Eddie was still in his bed, just laying there.

"Eddie. I want to tell you the truth. About me." Edylenne said, sitting back in the chair, and scooting the chair closer to the bed.

Eddie straightened his posture, then asked, "Okay. Why?"

Edylenne hesitated, then finally said, "I just feel like it's time you know." Eddie nodded in response.

Edylenne took a deep breath, and changed her position in the chair.

"Now, before you start asking questions, save them for the end, okay?" Eddie nodded in response again.
