chapter 18
"IS THIS NECESSARY?" Edylenne asked, pointing to Elliot who had been tied to a chair with a rag stuffed in his mouth to stop him from talking. Meanwhile, Lila was painting his toe nails.
"Yes, now please watch the tape before I do the same to you." Five replied, as the tape started rolling, the projector glistening behind him. Edylenne just rolled her eyes at his remark.
"Is it on?" An elderly woman asked, appearing on the screen.
"I don't know." A man's voice came from behind the camera.
"What do you mean? There's an 'on' button. Just- there's something over-that jigga-ma-thing, whatever."
"I hit the jigga-ma-thing." The man responded, with annoyance rising in his voice.
"Okay, well, just-" The woman said before bickering with her husband.
"They're so cute." Lila said, smiling at the TV with nail a nail polish bottle in her hand. "I love old couples. I'm always so proud of them for not murdering each other. Like you and Edylenne!"
Diego snickered and Edylenne slightly smiled, but her smile disappeared quickly after Five had said to Diego, "At least I got a girl, unlike your dumbass."
"Okay, you wanna go there?"
"Yeah, I do!"
"I'll tell you what, old man-".
"Both of you shut up!" Edylenne yelled out, irritated that she couldn't listen because of her brothers' bickering.
A moment of silence went by, until Diego broke it, saying, "Why are we watching this again?"
"We're figuring it out." Five replied, his eyes focused on the film in front of them.
"Yeah, I...I'm Dan Frankel. And...".
"I'm Edna Frankel." The woman behind the camera cut off.
"Edna Frankel. We are in Dallas, Texas, to see the President. Today's date is November 22nd, 1963."
Edylenne had remembered when her brothers and sisters had learned about the day JFK died, and how she thought the lesson was incredibly boring. But, seeing it go down in front of her eyes, made her more interested than she realized. She improved her position of the floor to be sitting more up.
"Well, that's six days from now." Lila said as Elliot wiggled in the chair, freaked out by what he was watching.
"Holy shit. This is it. The grassy knoll. Kennedy's about to get shot." Diego said, leaning forwards on the counter he sat on. His arms were wrapped around his legs, which were in front of his chest. "How do you have this, Five?"
"Hazel died to get me this footage. It must be the key to stopping doomsday." Five responded.
"Hazel?" Diego and Edylenne said at the same time, with Edylenne's eyes on Five. Edylenne had remembered Hazel very vaguely, before she had been assigned to Dallas. He was a sweet guy, unlike his partner, Cha-Cha. She remembered the two who were fighting their way to the top to take her and Five's place as 'Best Assassins' in the commission.
