chapter 19

"THIS IS IT." Five said as Diego parked in front of the building, with every light switched off at the late hour. Edylenne stepped out the car, while Five walked around to the front and Diego got out the car as well.

"'D.S. Umbrella'. This is it." Diego said, shutting the car door behind him.

On the wall of the building, next to a sign that had the street printed on it, was a plaque with the company name and a black umbrella in the middle. The same umbrella that was tattooed on Edylenne and her siblings' wrists.

Five stopped halfway down the path, his eyes still on the plaque, examining it from head to toe.

"You okay?" Diego asked.

"Yeah, fine. Just. Weird." Five responded, walking to the clear doors ahead and sighing.

"How long has it been since you guys have seen him?" Diego asked the couple.

"45 years."

"51 years."

"Damn, some trips you guy had." Diego said, whistling at their responses.

"No kidding. You know, when we were stuck in the apocalypse, there wasn't a day that went by where I didn't hear his voice in my head." Five said, peering through the glass doors.

"What was he saying?" Diego asked, worried about his brother, while Edylenne leaned on the nearby wall, watching them talk.

"I told you so."

Diego scoffed, while saying, "Well, if Dad's here, he's never met you before. So, he can't say 'I told you so.'"

"I'm sure he'll find a way." Five said, turning his attention to his wife, who was just fondly smiling, he returned one to her. Edylenne remembered how Five and Reginald always bickered, and half of the time, it was about stupid stuff. But the other half, was about her. He would always defend her about things she did, even if she did a wrong. Sure, Reginald always got mad and would punish Five, but he wouldn't care. He only cared that Edylenne was alright, and never talked bad in her name. Thanks what husbands are supposed to do. Defend their wives. That's why Edylenne followed Five that day. She trusted him so much. And deep down, loved him.

Edylenne always wondered what would've happened if Five had listened. They would probably all be dead right now, due to the apocalypse. Or living healthily and happily. Or miserably. One of the two.

Five sighed loudly, in frustration as it took forever for Diego to pick the lock. He blinked into the building and opened the door from the inside.

"Right. Gotta remember that." Diego said, grabbing the door and holding it open for Edylenne. She walked into the building, which was very dark as her brothers were behind here.

"Why did you never come here, Ed's?" Diego asked her, making her turn around to face them.

"This man slapped me, and made me fight you. Like hell I'm gonna visit him." Edylenne responded, while looking at Diego, and  they walked into a nearby room.

Ever since the apocalypse, Edylenne was still uncomfortable in the dark, so she grabbed Five's hand for comfort, which he happily accepted, slightly smiling, but no one could see it. He pulled her closer, so close they could hug each other.
