chapter 6
FIVE AND EDYLENNE found a newspaper that had the date. It read "April 1st, 2019." They both found a wagon and some clothes to put supplies. They tried finding a house that was still standing, which there wasn't any. They found scarves so they wouldn't get any smoke or dust in their mouths. They also found some sort of goggles to protect their eyes.
They eventually found a little hut that was still standing with a twin sized bed inside. It was like waiting for a moment like this. They parked the wagon outside of the hut. Edylenne sat on the edge of the bed, with her leg bouncing and her heart beating rapidly. Five sat next to her and put his hand on her knee.
"It's going to be okay." Five said to her through his tears.
She looked at him, and hugged him. He hugged her back tightly and she cried in his shoulder.
—
It was nighttime. And holy shit, Edylenne hated nighttime now. It was hella scary, if she had to be honest. And hella cold for April. Edylenne and Five stood on the opposite sides of the bed. They looked at each other awkwardly, and Edylenne got under the covers first. Five eventually got under the covers. The bed was too small for the both of them, so Five had to put his arm around her, and Edylenne had to snuggle up close to him. It was awkward at first, but Edylenne woke up to him protecting her with his life.
—
It had been 5 years Five and Edylenne had been in the apocalypse. They had a rough time in the apocalypse. They would sometimes had to eat off of bugs, twinkies that were ass, and canned food. And boy, did puberty hit them hard. Five was much taller and muscular. They were both 18. Edylenne had longer hair, and huge changes in her appearance. Five would often stare at her too long, and she would slap him and tell him to focus on something else. Eventually, Five had a crush on Edylenne. All this time spent alone was perfect for him to open up to her.
But he would always be too nervous. So, he would try and give her signals. Edylenne noticed these, but always brushed it off.
If Edylenne had to be honest, she had a crush on him too. They would always make random eye contact and would flirt without realizing it. They would always travel to different spots everywhere to see if they can find another person. But, they never had any luck with that. Until one day, they had found an almost perfect house that surprisingly wasn't touched by the apocalypse.
They entered the house, and still had decent furniture and had two bedrooms. They had a nice living room and a library across from the house that was still standing too. Edylenne explored the library a little while Five explored the house for any food of some sort.
Edylenne was rummaging through the many books when she saw a book in particular. The title was "Extra Ordinary. My Life as Number Seven. An Autobiography by Vanya Hargreeves." Edylenne picked the book off the shelf and rushed back into the house, trying to look for Five.
"Five! Come here!" She yelled his name. He came out of one of the bedrooms, and asked her, "What is it?"
She showed him the book, and they both sat on the couch together to read the book.
The dedication really threw the duo off.
"This is for Five, Ben, and Edylenne. It was hard making this book thinking about them. Since I grew up with them. And they were closer to me than any of my other siblings. May they rest in peace."
