chapter 14

THE TWO GREW closer over the years. Yes, years. But, Edylenne accepted her fate that she was stuck in Dallas Texas. But, now she didn't care. She thought about retiring, but she thought that maybe, there was still a chance she could leave.

One day, the two decided to get coffee together. It's the only thing they haven't done, and they agreed to try out the new recipe the café made a few days ago.

Eddie held the door open for Edylenne, she thanked him in return. She sat down in one of the booths, and Eddie sat right across from her.

"What are you thinking on getting?" Eddie asked her, picking up a menu.

"I'm not sure. Maybe just an iced coffee?" Edylenne replied, looking at the menu.

Suddenly, the bell rang at the top of the door, and the server behind the counter shouted, "Hey! You can't be in here! Whites only!"

Edylenne and Eddie turned their attention on the black woman. She looked scared. She apologized, "I'm so sorry!"

"Get you're ###### ass out of here now!" The server shouted. Racial slurs were being thrown at the poor girl.

She swiftly ran out of the café, and Eddie sighed in relief. "Thank god that ###### is gone."

Edylenne looked at him with shock. He was looking at the menu. She was disgusted. Then, she thought of something to say at Eddie.

"My sister's black. And one of my brother's is Hispanic. Oh, and did you know one of my other brother's is Asian?"

Eddie looked up from the menu. He looked mad.

Edylenne innocently asked, "What's wrong? Are you racist?"

"No."

"Seems like it."

"I'm not racist."

"Really? Then, go apologize to the black woman."

Eddie slammed his fists on the table, and harshly said, "We are leaving."

Edylenne stood up from the booth and walked out of the café with Eddie right behind her.

She tried walking away, when a hand grabbed her wrist and pulled her into the nearby alleyway.

"What the hell, Edylenne?" Eddie shouted at her.

"Fuck off!" She yelled back, pushing him off her and trying to walk away.

"Don't tell me to 'fuck off!' You embarrassed me!" Eddie shouted at the frustrated girl.

"I will tell you to 'fuck off' and who am I embarrassing you in front of?" She shouted at Eddie.

"Well, well, well. Look what we have here." A third voice came from the darker part of the alley. Both Eddie and Edylenne turned their heads to the voice.

Eddie looked scared. Edylenne knew she wasn't. Mostly, she isn't scared of anything. A tall figure walked out of the dark part of the alleyway.
