chapter 22

EDYLENNE WOKE UP to the smell of cooked eggs. She groaned as she sat up, scratching the back of her neck. She placed her feet on the ground, and slowly stood up from the bed. She stumbled, trying to find her balance, grabbing ahold of her dresser. She opened her door, and stumbled out, falling on the bathroom floor. Diego rushed around the corner to help her up from the floor.

"Are you okay?" Diego asked, grabbing ahold of her arm gently.

"Yes, you never saw me fall." She replied, shooing away his hand.

"Five made me promise that I kept an eye on you until he got back."

"From where?" Edylenne asked, walking into the kitchen, not being able to walk in a straight line, with Diego following behind, keeping his hand out in case she fell backwards.

She finally got to a nearby chair and sat in it. She sighed and looked around. Luther and Vanya were sitting on the couch across from her, awkwardly watching.

"Vanya, Luther. Nice to see you guys. Diego, grab me some coffee, would ya?" Edylenne said, waving her hand in the air at Diego.

"I'm not your slave!" Diego spat at her from across the room. She rolled her eyes, and started to get up when Luther stopped her.

"Don't bother. I got it. What do you want in it?" Luther reassured, standing up.

Edylenne, furrowing her eyebrows in confusion, replied, "Just cream and sugar. Thank you, Luther." He nodded and rushed into the kitchen to make her a cup.

"Diego, where's Five?" Edylenne asked, pressing her hands against her forehead.

"Getting Klaus and Allison. He'll be back soon." Diego responded, putting a plate of food in front of her. There were some eggs, bacon, and pancakes.

"Thank you. And Elliot?" Edylenne turned her head to face Diego, who was already walking away. He turned around, and furrowed his eyebrows.

"Doing whatever shit Elliot does." Diego replied, then turning around and walking away again. Edylenne, shrugging her shoulders, turned back and dug into her food.

"Were you there when I ended the world?" Vanya asked after a moment of silence. Edylenne, in response, put her finger up to finish chewing. She swallowed her food, then said, "No, I've been presumed dead for a year."

"Oh, but you knew about the apocalypse?" Vanya asked, scooting closer to the edge of the couch.

"Mhm. Me and Five traveled too far into the future and were the only ones left." Edylenne explained, cutting more of her pancake. Luther came back with a cup in his hand.

"Careful, it's hot."

"Thank you, Luther." She said, putting the cup on the table in front of her. He sat down next to Vanya, and looked like he wanted to say something, but it was terrible for Edylenne to watch.

"Luther."

"Hm?"

"Do you have anything to say?"
