THIRD PERSON POV

to everyone that knew them around the time they first got together, they were it. they were that couple that everyone thought of when they heard the words "forever", "endgame", and "true love."

y/n and chris knew each other briefly for a couple years before they finally gave into their desires and confessed their feelings for one another. from then on, they felt content. they felt happy. like they were meant to be.

they were right for each other, everyone thought it. they just fit. so when news broke that y/n had left chris suddenly one night in the middle of december, they were shocked to say the least.

THESE DAYS, I HAVEN'T BEEN SLEEPIN' // STAYIN' UP PLAYIN' BACK MYSELF LEAVIN'

y/n tossed and turned as she laid in bed, desperately begging for sleep to overcome her, tired of the relentless replay of her walking out on chris in the middle of the night. she was just so terrified of letting him fully love her.

the idea of love was something she craved but refused to let herself have.

I'M SO GLAD YOU MADE TIME TO SEE ME // HOW'S LIFE? TELL ME HOW'S YOUR FAMILY?

y/n felt unsettled as she sat at the table in the small café, her right knee bouncing restlessly as she waited to see if chris would actually show up. she had returned to boston momentarily to visit family and finally had the courage to ask chris if he was willing to talk.

as she stared at her coffee, watching as the whipped foam on top slowly melted, she felt the table shift slightly as someone sat down across from her. looking up, she felt her breath momentarily hitch in her throat. she had seen chris in pictures during their time apart, but she always said that photographs never did his beauty justice.

"you actually came." she whispered, unable to look away from his unreadable stare as she felt her heart hammer away at her ribcage.

"you called." he whispered back, his heart beating just as fast as hers. the two made small talk, asking each other about their lives, desperately avoiding the elephant in the room.

"so, how's your family?"

"she misses you, you know? my mom. she took your leaving harder than everyone else did. she always thought of you as her daughter in law, she was so sure you were it for me." he hummed, drinking his coffee as she stared at her over the rim of his cup, she still looked the same. her h/c hair was still the same length, a little wavier than before, and her e/c eyes were still as piercing as they had always been, but there were a deeper, more noticeable purple crescent moon shaped bags under her eyes.
