y/n sighed again, watching as her boyfriend held numerous conversations with his friends at the party he dragged her to, all while leaving her alone in the corner.

"he only brought me out to LA for show, not wanting his fans to worry. we don't even sleep in the same fucking room anymore." the girl thought to herself, the sadness and anger bubbling up her throat like the bitter bile she bit back every time he looked her way.

"hey, are you and matt good?" madi asked as she approached her close friend, her eyes holding what only could be described as pitiful concern.

"do you wanted some half assed answer or the truth?" y/n replied, her dry laugh following as she swirled the pepsi around in her red solo cup, watching as the bubbles popped as quickly as they appeared.

"i'd like the truth y/n."

"no madi, matt and i aren't good. we haven't been for a long time and i think he wants to breakup. we don't even sleep in the same room anymore. he always sleeps in chris' room or on the couch whenever i spend the night at their place in boston. at your place, he always suggests for me to sleep on the couch or in the spare room. wanna know what the worst thing is?" the girl sighed, her voice cracking as she looked at her best friend, the shorter girl's arms wrapped around y/n as she willed her tears to go away.

"he acts as if we're fine for the fans, but the second we're alone, it's yelling, fighting and crying. i love him with all my heart but i don't think he loves me anymore." the girl sighed again, feeling stuck in a constant loop where all she could do was cry, lose herself in her thoughts and sigh.

"you should talk to him." madi spoke, offering a concerned smile and a reassuring squeeze as y/n nodded, handing her cup to madi as she left to find her boyfriend. however, when she stepped into the hallway, her eyes landed in matt, walking behind another mutual friend up the stairs, smiling up at her without a care in the world.

without so much as another thought, the girl fished her keys out of her pocket, sending nick a short text before walking out of the house, tears building along her waterline as she walked to her car. unbeknownst to her, chris had watched the whole scene unfold in front of him. he knew how poorly his brother and best friend's relationship was going and his heart hurt for them both.

he followed slowly behind his best friend, watching as she stumbled along the lawn to her car, her eyes becoming so blurred by the uncontrollable tears fell down her face.

"y/n, gimme your keys, i'll drive you back to madi's. you're crying so much that you can't see." chris sighed as he plucked the keys from her hand, opening the door for her only for her to turn toward him, quickly wrapping her arms around his torso as she sobbed. chris' heart broke even more as he rubbed his hand up and down her back, comforting her as she cried out everything she had been holding back.
