"The answer to everything, begins and ends with the bridge" Tazuna began. "The bridge?" Sasuke questioned.

"The land of waves is an island nation..the only way to get goods in and out of the country is by ship, but a year ago a man arrived in the land of waves" he explained "A short man who casts a very a long and very deadly shadow. Gato."

"Gato? The Shipping Magnate Gato?" Kakashi asked, his eye wide. The genins exchanged confused looks.

"The same. He used his enormous wealth to take over the land of waves. Anyone who opposed him vanished without a trace. The land of waves has become a haven for his thugs and gangsters. Without that bridge there is no way to break his stranglehold on our people"

"But why'd you have to lie?" Sakura asked.

"Because we don't have enough money, we can't afford the fee for a B or an A rank mission! So we had no other option but to lie about it, we're so desperate...but I understand if you will have to leave me here and return to your village" He sighed dramatically. "Of course I will keep going on my own, and naturally I'll be killed the second I set foot in the land of waves, and my grandson will cry for his Grandfather!"

The old man began to cry crocodile tears "And my poor daughter-"

"We understand" Naruko interrupted. "And you don't have to worry either! Because we'll continue with the mission, and help you finish that bridge, right guys?" She gave the rest of her team a look.

Her eyes travelled from face to face. Sakura looked hesitant and nervous, Sasuke was contemplative, and Kakashi was...

"Kakashi-sensei?" She turned to face her whole body to the jounin.

Kakashi sighed and rubbed the back of his head. Normally he would have said 'no' straight out, what with him having a Genin team to take care of and all, but..

Kakashi met Naruko's intense blue eyes. She was waiting for his answer. "Kakashi?" She tried again. ".. Sen..sei?"

"I-" Kakashi started. "I can't make any promises" he forced his eyes to glare at the old man. "Tazuna-san, I'll think about it"

Naruko smiled gently, her heart felt lighter all of a sudden. Even though she knew Kakashi wouldn't disagree, she still felt like a weight was lifted off her back. "Let's get moving" Kakashi ordered.

Pretty soon, they were back in the road.

Naruko was walking at the head of the group, hands behind her back, while Sasuke walked beside her, scolding her for "... almost gave me a damn heart attack when you jumped into battle like that! And by yourself? We're a team now Naruko! Don't rush head first into battle just to be able to show off your abilities! I get it, you're stronger than me and faster than Sakura but that still doesn't mean-" he lectured her

Naruko groaned loudly "I get it stop nagging me! And it all worked out in the end right?"

"Nagging? I'm not nagging! You're such a-" he growled in annoyance. She interrupted him again, this time batting her lashes "A amazing, super awesome super cool ninja with awesome abilities and great hair?" She grinned and flipped her long blonde hair, hitting Sasuke's face with it.

"Far from it! You're still a dobe Naruko!" Sasuke snapped.

Naruko just laughed and placed her arm around his shoulder, pulling him against her. "But in all seriousness" she said. "Thanks for the concern and" she paused and scratched her cheek. "You did well back there, really. You were awesome too Sasuke" she praised.

He was at this age where praises would mean a lot and would take him a long way.

Sasuke was still frowning, but had a blush staining his pale cheeks.

"You suck" he muttered.

"Pfft- hahaha!"

"I thought you said we wouldn't have to walk much further? My feet are killing me!" Sakura complained an hour later.

"I agree with her actually" Naruko groaned. "My legs feel like they're about to fall off!"

Kakashi couldn't help but laugh at his groaning genin team. "I'm sure we-"

"Break! I call for a break!" Naruko shouted. "Water break? Sitting break? Snack break? JUST LET US REST FOR A FEW MINUTES!" she yells, dropping to the ground on her belly. "Get up dobe" Sasuke kicked her side with his foot.

"Nooooooo" Naruko whined. "My feet hurt"

Kakashi sighed and looked forward. He can tell they were almost there. He looked back at Sasuke kicking Naruko who was lying on the ground, and Sakura who was leaning against a tree, massaging her ankles. Tazuna also eyed the young ninjas concernedly.

"Alright, ten minutes. Break time" Kakashi gave in.

"ALRIGHT!" Naruko bounced back up. "Thanks Kakashi-sensei" she beamed at him. "I'm gonna look for some edibles mushrooms" she said, before wandering off at a random direction.

Sasuke was about to follow her, but she stopped him. "Don't, Sasuke stay with them, I promise I'll be back soon" she said, raising a hand outward, her palm visible. "But-" the boy began to object, however was cut off by Kakashi calling him.

Sasuke was clearly reluctant to let her go on her own. But he also knew, and saw, how capable she really is. "Fine, but you better be back in five minutes or else" he warned her.

Naruko rolled her eyes at his empty threats. "Sure, mother" she sarcastically replied before rushing into the woods.

She knew she was being watched.

Has known about it since she 'complained' with Sakura about her feet hurting and wanting to take a break.

She already knew who's eyes this belonged to.

Still, she pretended to be oblivious as she picked wild berries from nearby bushes.

Her ears twitched when she heard leaves rustle and a branch shake. She bit back a smirk "Hmm, I wonder if the rest would like these" she said, playing the role of a clueless little girl. "Maybe Sakura would stop being mean to me if I give her all these tasty berries! And flowers too"

She sighed sadly. "Too bad there aren't any pretty flowers around, and I don't think Sakura would appreciate the wild flowers, would probably even say she could have picked them herself". She knew he was listening to her, was probably even mentally listing down everything she was saying.

Soon she had her arms full of berries, and that was when she decided it was time to go back.

"I got berries for everyone!" Naruko said, dumping the berries on the ground. Sasuke, Kakashi and Tazuna bent down and picked them Up, eating the berries. Sakura pretended to look uninterested. But it wasn't long before she gave in to her hunger and stuffed her mouth with handfuls of berries, soon she resembled a chipmunk. She was just that hungry.

"Hmm.. I wonder if they would attack us just like in the previous timeline? I've already changed enough already, so there's no stopping me from changing some more, I wonder how Kakashi would react if he saw me use the rasengan?" She thinks while eating a berry.

She has to prepare for her next fight. This one with Zabuza and Haku.
