'you're coming home next week, right?'
I stared at the text from my father as I stood outside the campus gate. It was nothing different but it gave off an ominous feeling. I felt chills all over my body partially from reading it and partially from the weather as well. I looked up at the time, ten past seven o'clock. She's late as usual.
My eyes wandered over the buzzing streets for any signs of her among the passing students and spotted a long feminine hand waving at me. There she was, Ruby Song, my first ever friend here and current roommate.
She ran towards me, looking like a heroine straight out of a boxhit movie. Her chocolate waves bounced over her shoulders as she took long strides towards me and her bold style made her stand out from the rest of the crowd. Uncommon beauty, exceptional style and confident demeanor. She lives up to her name, Ruby. Just like the gem.
She stopped in front of me and caught her breath. God, she's too gorgeous. I really can't get used to this, no matter how often I see her. I mean, Who looks beautiful with sweat trickling down their neck? I get why guys swoon over her.
I shook my head lightly to pull myself out of her spell, and put on a stern expression. "It's the tenth time now and we're just halfway through the month. Be a little punctual Ruby, will you?"
"Sorry,” she cut me off, “sorry Mommy. I won't be late next time. Shall we go now?"
She tugged on my arm and gave me her signature eye smile, I sighed, giving up and following her to our destination.
The Five High, a restaurant cum bar for the students of Westview University outside it's campus. We were heading there for our weekly outing. As we walked closer to the bar, it seemed crowded as always with students and professors enjoying the happy hour alike. But when we reached a certain distance I could see a certain someone standing in front of the gate of the bar. A very distinct figure, whom I can recognise even from just his shadow.
"Amy said she was already inside and- hey, are you listening?" Ruby waved her hand in front of my face, but I didn't avert my eyes. So, she followed my gaze. "It's Nolan, isn't it?" She asked.
"It looks like him,” My gaze fell on the person standing in front of him, “And there's a girl."
"Ahh! I remember Asher saying something about Nolan going on a date," she exclaimed when she remembered her boyfriend's words.
I felt a wicked smile blooming on my lips, “It must be the date then,” and an equally wicked idea popping in. An idea that'll ruin his date and maybe ruin his reputation for good too.
"You're giving off very evil vibes, Kayra. And I'm getting excited," Ruby flashed a playful smile at me, “so what are you gonna do?”
"It's time to get revenge," I winked at Ruby before walking off towards him. I heard Ruby's 'Go girl' from behind and chuckled. The excited gleam in her eyes and voice was obvious. She sure loves chaos.
Now lets focus on the task.
As I was nearing them, I noticed the girl. She was pretty and blushing at Nolan's words. I felt bad for her that she will be caught between us but it is way too bad to be with someone like Nolan. I was doing something good by saving her. She wouldn't even realize how much trouble and headache I'm saving her from.
Nolan must've put extra effort in getting ready today. Navy blue shirt nicely tucked in his beige pants. Exposed chest and forearms, appearance signs of a Playboy. He had playboyish looks and I was sure he was one too. He always broke hearts here and there with his charming face and smug personality. That cunning asshole.
I was a few feet apart from them and Nolan's face started becoming clearer. He had his light brown locks perfectly styled and set into a date-appropriate look. And just look at his face, I mean, he always had a natural porcelain skin most girls would kill to have but today he was practically glowing with love and surely lust. Ughh. He had put in good work to look good. And I hate to admit, he looked handsome. If only his personality matched his face.
Nolan Gray was my only nemesis and someone who pissed me off just by existing. I don't really hate people, it consumes a lot more energy than one might think but with Nolan, it's different. He makes me loathe him. His mere presence is revolting and I hate it but he just doesn't stop messing with me.
I stopped at a distance, my eyes still glued to them. I rubbed my eyes a bit, slapped my face a few times and tried to breathe heavily to make it believable. I plastered a pained expression and with tear filled eyes, I stormed towards them. I stopped at his side and as soon as he turned to look, my palm swung and I slapped him hard across his face.
'Here we go.'
