"Noo! I am not leaving here," Kayra grumbled, while clinging to a tree outside the club. She was hugging that tree from the past fifteen minutes and refused to let go.
"Come on, I'll drop you home." I tried to loosen her grip but to no avail. She just hugged the tree tighter with a frown on her flushed face.
"No." Passers-by gave us weird glances as she yelled. My hand reached to massage my temple where a vein throbbed badly. I knew she was stubborn but she was testing my patience now. Well she was, from the moment she entered in that ridiculously small dress, that hugged her body at all the right spots. I knew right then, in an instant, that today's not gonna be an easy one.
She fell asleep on the counter inside and her friends couldn't even handle themselves, so how would they handle her? That was why I was in this situation. Ruby asked me to drop Kayra off at their apartment, since she was way too wasted to stay and I couldn't agree more.
"They'll cut it down to make malple swrep," she blabbered and her lips formed a pout. Oh god! Wait. Did my heart just skip a beat?
I shook my head to get rid of the nonsense thoughts evading my mind. "No, they won't, Kay." It wasn't even a maple tree for god's sake.
"They will." She tightened her grip on the tree more. At this point, her nails dug deep in the tree trunk.
I pointed at the tree and fake gasped, "Oh look, a lizard!" I knew this would work and it did. She let go of that tree in an instant with a squeal but in the process her leg stumbled and she was going to taste the dirt, if I had been a second late. I caught her by her waist and her arms flung to hold my biceps. Whew! Saved.
"Fuck you, Asshole," she looked at me and mumbled before closing her eyes. She must be drowsy, as her hands fell down, dangling in the air. The corners of my lips twitched when I heard her soft snores soon. She looked peaceful, cute, and hot. Wait. No! Shit!
"We are taking an Uber.” I nearly dropped Kayra when I heard Jake. Geez, he startled me. He stood a couple meters away from us, in front of the club gate.
"Why? I'll drop you off too. I'm sober," I said before putting Kayra on the passenger seat and fastening her seatbelt.
"Nah, we're good," he said. I noticed he wasn't alone. Amelia was with him, holding hands and smiling. I understood what it meant and didn't ask more. I just nodded at him and they both left. I exhaled a heavy sigh and turned to look at Kayra.
It was normal for us to drop each other off at their places and I had done it too a lot of times but with Kayra, it was first. She never came to parties and was always rational and collected. But looking at her now, she seemed like a different person.
I took out the spare hoodie from my car trunk and covered Kayra with it. I always carried a spare hoodie with me for unexpected situations and this was definitely one.

I was concentrating on the road, when my phone dinged as the clock struck midnight and the noise seemed to had woken Kayra up. I looked at her, thankfully she was still asleep- My heart nearly jumped out of my ribcage and I gasped, startled when she suddenly opened her eyes and stared into my soul.
"Happy new year!" She smiled warmly. The corners of her eyes creased and a perfect set of pearly whites unveiled. Seeing her smile, I relaxed and a smile of my own crept up.
"Happy new ye-"
“Happhy New Year, Nolan! Haaappy New Year!" She giggled with half closed eyes. She was still drunk. I sighed and here I thought she'd sobered up and was genuinely smiling at me. Somehow, I felt disappointed.
