Chapter 1: Someone Else's Friends From Overseas

I rolled over in bed and rubbed my eyes when I woke up to the doorbell ringing. I was so aggravated that someone decided to come around being productive at seven in the morning on a Saturday in the beginning of summer.

"Dakota!" Kadence shouted for me from downstairs.

I just groaned and pulled my covers completely over my head, hoping she'd just let me sleep. She knows how much I love sleep. I smiled to myself when I didn't hear her calling anymore, but I frowned when I heard loud footsteps on the stairs. I heard a loud knock and pretended to still be deep asleep.

"Coming in!" she cheered before I heard my door be thrown open.

"Wake up!" she shouted, and then I felt her jump on top of me.

"Really? It's Saturday morning," I moaned. "Let me sleep."

"The boys are here!" she said excitedly, and my eyes snapped open.

Her smiling face and light brown eyes looked down at me, her long, straight, blond hair tickling my face.

"They're finally here," she whispered.

"I totally forgot," I said, slapping a hand to my forehead.

"I'll give you five minutes," she told me, unable to keep the grin off of her face.

I hopped out of bed and raced to my small, sliding door closet. I bounced on the balls of my feet while searching through my limited clothes. In the end, I just grabbed a pair of homemade studded shorts and a crop top before grabbing a sock and rolling my jet black hair up in a bun. Not bothering with makeup because I didn't have time and I wasn't a fan of it anyways, I just headed down the stairs. I had completely forgotten that today Kadence's friend Zayn Malik and his now famous band mates would be arriving to spend some of the summer with us.

Sure enough, when I went in the living room, there were five attractive boys with tired eyes and heavy looking bags that I recognized from X Factor even though they looked very different. Kadence was practically jumping up and down with pure happiness.

"This is them Dakota!" she cheered.

I smiled and nodded, looking at each one of them turn. They waved and smiled politely, but Kadence's childhood best friend, Zayn Malik, had the brightest twinkle in his eyes. He had this smile on his face where his teeth were parted ever so slightly so that the tip of his tongue rested between them, making him seem a bit childish, but it was cute. The other boys also seemed happy, but Zayn was obviously the most excited to be reuniting with one of his best friends. They had all changed, but I could still recognize the boys that Kandence and I had watched and cheered for on the X Factor.

Both Niall's and Louis' hair was styled upwards, and they had all grown up, especially Harry. He was so tall now, and his hair was losing his boyish corkscrew curls. Liam had buzzed his hair, and some of the boys' tattoos were visible under their T-shirts.

Zayn let out a yawn just as Terry, Kadence's mom, came in from the kitchen and said, "Boys, I've got some breakfast if you want anything."

Niall immediately dropped his bags and said, "Let's eat then."
