Chapter 21: Someone Else's Night Out
The laughter in the living room died as I walked in. I received nothing but cold glares and silence. Clearing my throat, I wriggled my toes into the carpet and tugged on the hem of my shirt. I knew what I had to say, but I was so bad at saying what needed to be said. Also, I was scared that the waterworks would start if I opened my mouth to speak. Now, the longer I waited, the more I further annoyed everyone. Kadence crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow at me. Without uttering a single word, I got her message loud and clear.
Are you just going to stand there, or are you actually going to say something?
“I didn't, I didn't mean what I said,” I told them; my bottom lip quivered pathetically, like it always did when I was close to tears. “I spoke without thinking, and I swear that it was not in any way truthful. Well, I mean you are Kadence's friends and whatnot, but you're also mine. I mean, I hope your still my friends and whatnot because I do consider each of you to be one of my friends, and I really hope that you'll forgive me.”
My words filled the room, and I watched each person take his or her own time digesting what I had to say. I did what Drew said. I was honest and as sincere as I could come across through my lack of conversation skills. Finally, Kadence smiled warmly and got up from the couch to come over to me.
“I know you didn't mean it,” she mumbled into my shoulder. “I shouldn't have pushed you about going to the zoo either. We were both in the wrong.”
Closing my eyes and letting out a sigh, I murmured, “Thank you.”
“We always pull through,” she told me encouragingly. “We've been friends for a long time, and we've had fights. We always get through them though, and I plan on being friends with you for a lot longer time.”
Tears blurred my vision, but I refused to let them fall over something so silly.
“Group hug!” Louis announced before I was trapped in a tangle of arms.
Instead of squirming uncomfortably, like I might have done under different circumstances, I grinned and buried myself in the show of affection.
“No hard feelings?” I asked through the mob.
Zayn spoke up for all of them and said, “We all still love you.”
My heart was almost ripped out of my chest, but luckily, I wasn't able to stumble when I was being embraced simultaneously by six different people. After a lingering moment though, we all pulled away and stood smiling at each other. I was so happy that they had forgiven me; I felt like I was radiating pure joy, like maybe rays of the sun were peeking out from inside of me.
“Hey! You fixed shit!” Drew cheered as he bounced down the steps.
“What was he doing here?” Zayn asked angrily.
The frown on his face shocked me, and I mumbled, “He was just keeping me company.”
“I was helping her clean and shit,” Drew shrugged, sending me a devious smirk.
“Cleaning?” Kadence asked in utter confusion.
“Yeah, she-”
“They don't need to know that,” I cut him off hurriedly.
“Yes they do need to know about how you threw things out of the attic window and toppled things over, only to call me and have me help you clean it all up,” Drew told them and stuck his tongue out at me.
I sighed and put my fingers to my temples, closing my eyes and taking a deep breath.
“You did what?” Kadence asked.
