Chapter 5: Someone Else's Safe Haven
Instead of being brave and trying to protect me, Zayn and Niall ran off to find cover, leaving me to be soaked by Harry, who was smirking while spraying me with a hose. I held my hands in front of my face and started running away to try and save whatever was left of myself that was dry. Harry was fast though, and the hose had a long range, so it was no use. I ran behind the huge oak that stood in the back left corner of the fenced in yard and put my hands flat on the bark, panting heavily. This was such a Kadence thing to do; she was always pulling pranks.
I got confused when I didn't hear the rushing water from the hose anymore, and I immediately went on high alert, my body tensing in anticipation. Cautiously, I peaked my head around the tree just enough to see. Harry's grinning face was right on the other side of the tree, and I screamed as he turned the hose back on, sending a new wave of cold water towards me.
“Harry!” I shouted, trying to get away, again. “I surrender. I surrender!”
He laughed in victory, and I fell to my knees, hoping he'd show some mercy. He finally turned the hose away from me and held out a hand to help me up. I gratefully took it, and then, wanting some payback, I turned to him with my offer. He was a bit hesitant, but in the end, he agreed. He grabbed my shirt sleeve and tugged me over to where Kadence sat, watching the chaos and laughing gleefully. She jumped a bit when we approached but relaxed when she saw I was captured.
“Oh, Harry, you got her,” she smiled without a care in the world.
“Yup,” he said proudly.
“But now we got you!” I yelled out before taking the hose, switching it on, and absolutely drenching Kadence.
She screamed and ran away, but I chased her around the yard, making sure she got as wet as I was.
“Mutiny Harry!” she shouted. “I can't believe you Harry! I thought we were friends!”
“We are!” he assured her from his safe spot by the door.
She only turned towards him and flipped him off, but that only made Harry laugh even harder. I had no idea where the other boys were while this went on because I was so focused on the imminent threat of Harry. Now though, as Kadence and I got tired and called a truce, I saw that Louis and Liam had surrounded Zayn and Niall, who had somehow climbed up one of the big trees in the yard.
“Come down now!” Louis shouted, aiming his water gun at them while Liam stood by with water balloons.
Kadence and I looked at each other, thinking the same thing, and ran to them.
“Oh hey look!” Louis said happily. “Backup!”
“Not quite,” Kadence smirked, blasting the hose at the boys.
They shouted out and ran off while we laughed.
“You can come down,” I told Zayn and Niall, and they carefully made their way out of the tree.
“Thanks for that,” Zayn told us.
They had gotten pretty soaked too though. Both of the boys' hair laid flat on their heads, and their thin T-shirts had gotten so damp that they hung heavier and were more transparent. I quickly averted my eyes from Zayn's stomach area, hoping to stop the blush before it even started.
