Chapter 17: Someone Else's Radio Station

After a long night of Apples to Apples, I won. For once, I won a game, and I was extremely proud of myself. We all had a good laugh because, let's face it, when you combine teenagers and a plethora of opportunities for sex jokes, it's a guaranteed good time. Then, I spent a good deal of time in the attic after everyone had gone to bed, but I actually did get some sleep eventually. The only thing that kept me up later than I had planned was the fact that I had ideas for all of the other boys' shoes, except Zayn. I was clueless, and they had to be awesome. All of the other boys' shoes had turned out great, so Zayn's had to be just as good.

The weather was stifling the next day, so even the air conditioning didn't do much to help the heat. Everyone was miserable and doomed to be inside. It was hard to not be grumpy when you were sweating everywhere, and you were doing absolutely nothing. I had given up on ever feeling cool again. The boys were lounging somewhere upstairs while Kadence was on a couch, and I was on the floor on my back, staring at the blades of the ceiling fan.

“I'm done with clothes,” I announced halfheartedly, sitting up and peeling off my tank top that was sticking to my body.

“What about the boys?” Kadence asked, but I could tell she didn't really care and was close to joining me.

“It's no secret that I wear a bra,” I retorted, laying back down and pulling the fabric of my basketball shorts up so that they just covered my underwear but exposed my sweaty thighs.

We fell into silence for a few minutes, and I closed my eyes and rested one arm across my forehead. I heard and felt Kadence roll off of the couch to lie next to me on the floor, but I ignored her.

“Dakota it's hot. I want to go swimming,” Kadence whined, poking me over and over again on my cheek.

“Well, we don’t have a pool here, and we can’t take the boys out to the public one,” I told her with a sigh. “It’d be like going to a zoo.”

“You’d be the monkey right?” she asked with a giggle.

I put my hand on my chin and said, “No, I was thinking they’d be the monkeys actually. Since everyone would be gawking at them, you know? Oh, but don’t tell them I said that, they’ll probably do something stupid.”

“Like throw poop at you through the cage?” Louis asked from behind me.

I let out a yelp as my hand raced to go over my thumping heart and looked over behind the couch to see all of the boys staring at us with mischievous smirks.

I chuckled nervously, gave a small wave, and said, “Oh, hello boys, funny seeing you here.”

They crossed their arms over their bare chests; clearly, they couldn't stand the heat either, not like I blamed them. They all stood there, each giving me a mix between a glare and a knowing look.

“Why are you not wearing a shirt?” Zayn asked, and I scoffed.

“It's fucking hot,” I snapped. “Why would I torture myself?”

“Well, it's just, you're in your bra,” Zayn mumbled, not looking at me.

“Same as a swimsuit,” I shrugged. “You guys get to be shirtless. I think I can at least be in only my bra.”

“Feisty Dakota,” Harry snickered.

“More like it's literally so hot in here that I will cut off your balls if you annoy me Dakota,” I growled.

Harry widened his eyes, covered his crotch, and cowered behind Liam.

“Dakota's just very pissy when it's hot. No worries boys,” Kadence lazily waved her hand at them, but I snorted and rolled my eyes to say as if.
