Chapter 18: Someone Else's Idea of Fun

The next morning was one of those awful days when I was not allowed to get as much sleep as I preferred. But, it wasn't Kadence that woke me this time. Instead, it was Terry who shook me from my slumber; she was also the person that I punched in the arm with my eyes still squeezed shut, but she forgave me for that.

It was officially the weekend, and since the boys would be leaving next weekend, Terry and Peter wanted to do something fun with all of us while they were off work. For some reason, that involved getting up at eight in the morning. Kadence was perfectly okay with this, and the boys were clearly tolerating the early rise. I on the other hand was practically grunting at everyone instead of talking intelligently.

“I have a glass of milk for you in the fridge Dakota,” Kadence smiled way too happily for my liking at this early in the morning.

I grumbled incoherently and quickly grabbed it from the fridge. By quickly, I meant shuffling as fast as I could function and eagerly took it from the chilly vault.

“Do you want a cinnamon roll?” Terry asked me gently, understanding that I was still waking up.

I moaned something that Terry took as a yes and sat down at the table.

“Aw, someone really, really does not like mornings,” Louis smiled with false sweetness.

Since he wanted to see it, I very politely showed him my middle finger, which made him and the others laugh.

“Come on Dakota,” Terry grinned. “We're going to have a fun day together.”

“Define fun,” I mumbled between the cup of milk in between my lips.

“I thought that we could go back to that amusement park, but this time we'll bring you with us,” Terry beamed.

Immediately, I started shaking my head insistently.

“No, no, no, no, no,” I rushed. “The whole reason that I didn't go the first time was because I don't do well with roller coasters.”

“Oh don't be a party pooper Dakota,” Kadence frowned. “Can't you handle it for one day?”

“Do I even have to remind you of the 2009 town picnic?” I said through gritted teeth before shoving a bite of cinnamon goodness into my mouth.

Kadence's eyes went wide, and I thought that I had successfully gotten my point across and won this battle. But then, she started laughing loudly.

“Good Lord! I totally forgot about that until you just reminded me! Oh God that was so funny!” Kadence cried, pounding the table lightly as she continued laughing.

I frowned deeply and scowled at her.

“It wasn't funny in the slightest,” I spat. “It was traumatizing.”

“What happened?” Harry asked eagerly.

I gave Kadence a warning glare, but she only took that as a cue to tell the story.

“Well,” she smiled deviously at me, “I finally got Dakota here to ride this ride at the fair that spins around while going up and down, but it didn't really work out.”

“It was a death machine!” I argued.

Kadence snorted and continued, “Anyways, she basically ended up screaming the entire time and thought she was going to throw up. It was a little sad actually because she kept yelling at the workers to stop the ride.”

“It was more than a little sad! Those dicks let me suffer!” I protested.

“I take it back,” Kadence said sincerely before adding, “It was definitely hilarious.”
